I have pretty varied tastes. I'd say the only styles I don't listen to are country, classical, and death metal haha. I don't listen to much electronic music, but there are a few artists/groups in that genre that I really get into.
. (mostly the stuff I listened to in high school. Teen angst rules!)
Tool, Faith No More, Metallica, Pantera, Fear Factory, Sepultura. Of those, the only ones I still listen to these days would be Tool, Faith No More, and Metallica. Usually in small doses though, haha.
. This is my latest fad. I hated this sort of music when I was in high school, but over the last 5 or so years, I've made it a rule in my life to cut out unnecessary biases. If I haven't given something a fair objective go, I've got no right to hate it - that's my logic. So I gave R&B a go, and I really like it now!
Ne-Yo, Usher, 112, 702, Ashanti, Boyz II Men, Chris Brown, Craig David, Omarion. Those are a few of the ones I've been getting into lately, and I'm trying to expand the list hehe. Can't get enough of this stuff lately, it's just damn sexy.
Electronica. Not into much electronica, but I find that it's really good chill music for when I'm trying to work on a big design project, and the beats and melodies are so damn nice.
Alpinestars, New Order, Planet Funk, Royksopp, Air.
Folk. I have a few faves that fit into this category.
Darren Hanlon, The Lucksmiths, Sufjan Stevens, Jack Johnson (vaguely folk as far as I'm concerned).
Hip Hop. This is another genre I hated in high school, but I've really gotten into it over the last few years, especially the Aussie stuff. As long as it's not gangsta crap like 50 Cent and Eminem and all those small-dick idiots, it's usually pretty good and very clever lyrically. These guys are genuine poets.
Bliss n Eso, Girl Talk, Hilltop Hoods, Lupe Fiasco, Pegz, The Herd, TZU.
Indie. Indie's a pretty varied term these days, as like grunge fashion in the 90s, it eventually encroached into the mainstream genre. These are some of the groups I like that I think I would personally describe as having an Indie sound.
Art of Fighting, Belle & Sebastian, Big Heavy Stuff, Eskimo Joe, Guster, Jimmy Eat World, Josh Pyke, Rhubarb, Snow Patrol, Sekiden, Speedstar, Steve Burns, Tahiti 80, The Sleepy Jackson, Tiger Lou, Carpark North.
Older stuff. I don't really bother to put these ones into style categories, they're just old groups that have pulled out some of my fave alltime songs, haha.
Midnight Oil, Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Hoodoo Gurus, Goanna, Icehouse, Gangajang, Split Enz, The Black Sorrows, Mondo Rock, John Cougar Mellencamp, Tracy Chapman, Spin Doctors, Michael Jackson, Wet Wet Wet, Roachford, Noiseworks, INXS, Cold Chisel... Can't think of others right now, but there'd be plenty!
I also like some Japanese female pop artists, such as Ayumi Hamasaki and Utada Hikaru. One of my favourite composers of all time is Yoko Kanno, who is best known for her work on anime (Japanese cartoons) soundtracks such as Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus, and the Ghost in the Shell series.
So there you go, my music tastes in a nutshell
