Ok, like WHAT THE...???

Postby madeline » Mon Oct 08, 2007 3:45 pm

OK 2 things peeved me off big time today (it takes a lot to make me snap, and even today I didn't say anything, but I am angry right now

1) Today I went to the sandwich bar at uni as per usual. This is one of those places where you pay for what you get e.g. Roll is 60c, cheese is 70c, chicken is $3.60, tomato is 50c... etc, then they total it up and you pay. So I had a roll with avocado. That was all that was on my roll- AVOCADO. So I expected to pay $1.10 for the avocado and 60c for the roll = $1.70. And the manager lady (whom I have never had before), goes ok $3.70. I'm like "Why?" She says "Avocado is $1.10, roll is 60c." And I'm utterly confused... I ask again "Isn't it $1.70", and she says "Labor to make it." I'm thinking in my head <so I'm getting penalised for not having much on my roll, because noone else so far has been charged 'labor'> I just paid and left. So yeah, I paid an extra $2.00 more than anyone else because there was only 1 thing on my roll... shouldn't that be LESS LABOR???

2) I bought a book from the bookshop today. I thought the job of someone working at a bookshop would be to make you want to buy a book... or at least help you buy a book... but no. This lady was RUDE to me. I bought the book titled "Skinny B*tch" (no-nonsense, healthy approach to losing weight). I bring the book up to the counter, and the large lady working there smiles at me. I then hand her the book, she looks at it, then looks at me and positively SCOWLS at me. Firstly I'm like, ok maybe she's just having a bad day. But then she proceeds to shake her head and tsk tsk at me while she's putting it through. I'm sorry that you're not doing anything about your weight, lady, but you don't have to judge me on my choice of book. Your job is to be nice to me while I'm at the bookshop. Now that to me, is like someone at Coles putting through a box of condoms for a young boy and shaking their head at him and tsk tsking. Totally out of line.

Am I justified in being annoyed?

A LABOUR charge!? Yeah cos it's so hard to shove some avocado into a roll?! PFFTTT! That's ridiculous that they even factor 'labour' into it!

And I wonder what that lady would do if someone had bought like I dunno, a porno book or something (I know they probably don't stock em but just an example!!). Gah, the nerve of some people!

is that the sandwich shop at monash clayton by any chance? total rip off!

i bought a sandwich today (not at monash though) and i had chicken & salad on multigrain - just standard sandwich sized bread. it cost me $6.50. don't get me wrong - it was really tasty & i enjoyed it but my bf had a pastie that was about $2.50. why is the healthy choice so much more expensive??! :(

sorry to rant in your thread mads, but it was something i was thinking about myself today!

Why yes it is sassi. LOL. Yeah chicken and avocado on a roll is $5.30... $3.60 for the chicken... (see $3.60 + $1.10 + 60c) SEE WHERE'S THE LABOR CHARGE ON THAT! That's bullsh*t.

Yep you have every right to be annoyed!

The sandwich thing...... annoying and confusing!

The woman selling you the book. Here's my take....... when I was obese and people who did not really look like they needed to lose weight or were smaller than me would talk about health or weight lose I would get so defensive. I would act like that lady did in the bookshop and I would wish I was the skinner person. Why? I was insecure and could not deal with my weight issues...... it was NOTHING about them, it was me. I could not deal with being me. Honey, you have every right to be annoyed but I would take it as a compliment.....YOU MUST LOOK HOT! :D

I know that does not help and you should NEVER be treated that way and that I should never had been rude to people cause of my issues....... I am dribbling now! My point? YOU LOOK GOOD and YES YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANNOYED! :D

i thought my sandwich was expensive today but it was still probably cheaper than that sandwich place! (plus their chicken looks a little manky)

Do you get charged for labour off another person if they made your roll at uni?? or is that some bullshite that lady made up, if so compain & get your money back, it's not that much but where is that justice if you only get avo on your roll to some fancy roll that dosent get charged for labour.

I was the only person I've ever seen charged for labour, and I believe it's because I didn't put "enough" on my roll to make it worthwhile selling at that price. Still, they shouldn't have sold it to me at $1.70 the first few times then. I think she made it up.

Reading my new book now hehe :-D

Salad rolls are a ridiculous price. I'm very glad that the hotbake back home doesn't seem to have understood this yet, and still charges $2.50 for a big salad roll. ;) But while I'm in Canberra, I'm very glad I have college food nd can make a salad sandwich myself! (No labour charge on that!!!) But man - $1.10 for AVOCADO??? You could buy a whole one at the supermarket for that price, with change!!! In fact, I do that sometimes - Go to the supermarket, but a roll (50c), a bit of shaved cheese (15c), a bit of shaved ham (15c), a few loose salad leaves (15c), stack them together, and enjoy my 95c lunch! ;)

Also? Stupid book woman!!! Even if she was upset that someone hot was buying it, who says you weren't buying it for your friend? Not that you should make an excuse!!!

a Very good case for making your own lunch I would say!! I would not buy there again just on principal!! It certainly sounds like a rip off!!!

Woman in the bookstore was out of line for sure she should keep her unwanted tsking to herself.....I had the opposite happen to me when I went in to buy the biggest loser book...skinny bint behind the counter looked me up and down and smirked at me and as I was walking out she nudged her workmate and they said something and they both sniggered.

Clothes stores don't get better when you're skinny either. They just assume you're full of money and then they get angry if you don't buy. I almost feel too much pressure to buy now.

And yes, I'm never going back to that sandwich place... I might as well get a 6" veggie delite subway and get a lot more things on it too.

And to the girls who've experienced bit chiness from skinny girls, god just ignore them... they do it to everyone, to big girls, to other skinny girls with the 'wrong' shoes, the 'wrong' clothes... to girls with hot boyfriends 'omg like WHY is he with HER'. They're just all-round haters.

I agree clothes shops are terrible for it....I have found that our local autograph shop (formally 16-26) is a great place to shop in this size range and the ladies in there are really friendly.

I don't know where anyone gets off treating people like they do (whether it be on either side of the fence) it really grates on me!! grrr
