Does this offend?

Postby help6363 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 1:52 pm

Hello! :D

I recently sent this email to my friend and she was very offended by it...... I said sorry (a million times!)

I will not argue the point with her but she reckons it's stereotypical gender dog poo.

Just wondering.......does it offend anyone? I will not argue with her but I just cannot understand what she is saying.

Here's the email.......

hahahaha how funny is that :!:

Sorry but I think your friend is just being anal about it. Maybe she's getting angry about because there are some underlying issues?

It's just a joke.

I think that's funny aswell, I dont know why your friend has been affended by it. It remindes me of them tea add that were on the telly where the lady blended into the chair so the she didnt want to be disturbed while drinking her tea.

I think that was a coffee ad  Just goes to show how well she blended.

I guess I can see that if people have very strong views about equality of housework, then this could be taken as offensive in that perhaps it could be seen as encouraging men to shirk their share? Or that it accuses men of not doing their fair share?

I think it's a funny photo though - I wonder how many floral couches your could find on a field of war to hide on in your fatigues?

maybe give her a sense of humour pill??

did she say why it offended her?? Sometimes we can't see peoples reasoning behind things, but she may feel she has a legitimate reason...just a thought

Personally I think it is quite funny, but I am with you Kate...that couch is just feral!! LOL

It does naturalise the idea that women are the domestic ones, and men must only do chores if their woman forces them to and they can't get out of it. And in that way it is offensive, because it is backwards-thinking and undoing equal-rights efforts. But honestly? That idea is so ingrained in society anyway. I think it's a funny picture!
