Size does matter

Postby Fireball » Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:14 pm

Last year I went shopping at a DFO. There were numerous fashion stores but most of the clothes only go to size 12 or some to 14. I went into a store and asked, "Do you have larger sizes?" The gorgeous young sales girl exclaimed excitedly, "Yes. We go all the way to size 16". I thanked her and appreciated her innocent enthusiasm but after leaving the store cracked up in hysterical laughter. I am a size 24 - 26.

I'm pretty sure she chose the wrong profession. If she were brighter she might have noticed a 16 wouldn't have cut it...

yeah either she is new or she is in the wrong profession, the sales persons of thses shops generally have an idea of the sizes.. if she didnt notice it, then its the stores fault!

I have always been a size 14 plus. Even at my skinniest I struggled to get into a size 12 and I was only 67 kilos. I think its because I am tallish and not fine and petite. While I think that the salesperson needs to be re-educated sometimes people are brought up to think bigger than size 10 is plus size. All our models need to be a 6 or at the biggest an 8 so they are considered plus size at size 10. Dont blame the salesperson blame our society that insists on us being a perfect size 10 women.
I love my curves and could never give them up for a size 10 body although I would love to be a size 14 again.
I have shopped at DFO a few times and although I wish I was 14 some shops still cater for us big girls. I wear a size 22 now and always seem to find a little something. I especially love the Bendon factory outlet for sexy underwear.
Need to get motivated.

I think you're in a different state - our DFO definitely had a limited range. They could have a bigger range by now but after my last experience I don't know if I'm game to try again.

I noticed more and more larger size stores are popping up from the ground as if they're mushrooms. Big is getting fashionable again?

Hi Fireball,
Yes, I agree with that "Size does matter". A little funny but we need to face the truth. Anyway, thanks for sharing with us!

The thing that gets me is how the sizes don't even mean anything. I went into katies today and they had tops there that said 2XL, now I'm usually a 14 to 16 and these tops went nowhere near me. How can anyone go by what the sizes is on a garment. Obviously made for an overweight asian person(no offense meant) not an aussie gal like me.
Not sure how I would go buying clothes over the net, many returns I'm sure.
I am always looking for ways to keep my weight down. check out my blog http://www.ideasforweightloss.blogspot.com & http://www.squidoo.com/tips-for-dieting-and-eating-out

I think the saleslady needs to undergo Sales Training. LoL. That happened to me once, I was given a dress two sizes smaller than I am. I asked her, " Do you really think this will fit me?" She said "Yes". I thought she was just being polite and doesn't want to hurt my feelings or get me offended because there are plenty of people around. I asked her again " Are you serious?" She then replied, " It can be stretched!"

I walked out laughing.
