My story is the story of just an ordinary person who decided to get real with himself and change.

Sure I had a few things working against me like; fist size belly hernia (no weight lifting or vigorous exercise), chronic asthma (got very breathless quickly), bad back (had to watch how I moved), the wrong side of fifty (metabolism is slowing down) and never tried to lose weight before (no knowledge what is required). But all these things are just the circumstances of my life...not excuses to bail out.

The bottom line is...if I can do it - anybody can do it.

I had to get my photo taken for my new Working With Children ID.
When I got home I found a photo that was taken for another Working With Children ID just as I was starting to lose weight.
Comparing the two photos was an interesting and amusing treat.

I was looking at the originals of the above two pictures of me yesterday and thought that the fatter one of me might be a bit of a cheat.
It definitely looks like it was taken closer than the other one was.
So I put a ruler on them and measured from the top of the head to the chin of each one.
The result? They are exactly the same! ...
Gosh! Did I have a fat head or what?

Gee you wouldn't know it was the same person would you! As you say, don't forget your past.

Never forget the past! :)

...but sometimes I forget who knows about the present.
Recently some friends who I hadn't seen for quite a while were blown away by my change...I was sure that we had last met after my weight loss.
Maybe we hadn't - maybe they forgot who knows.

Another guy I hadn't seen for years bumped into me three weeks ago and totally failed to recognise me...that sort of thing happens a lot.
I carry old photos of me to help them pinpoint who I am.
I also tend to watch people's faces when I greet them.
Shocked face means they know who I am. A blank look means they don't know who the heck I am.
The last really good blank look I got was at a funeral...I'm going to another one on Thursday - so I expect a similar reaction from someone then.
