hungry at work

Postby electrongirl » Tue Nov 27, 2007 6:19 pm

ok, as I am just easing into this role, I havn't got heaps of work to do so I am finding myself bored alot!

And I tend to be filling the boredem with food. The one good thing is that I only have healthy, low fat food available to me, but I am eating alot of them.

I know work will get busier as I get used to it all but I need something to take my mind of it!!!

Its driving me crazy!!

i find i think a lot about food too, only thing is i'm surrounded by fizzy, lollies etc where i work!

Do you have a computer at your work? Even if you're just playing solitaire...it will keep ur mind off work and help with the boredom a bit.

I have a computer but it doesn't have the games on it. I can only view certain websites too. So no Facebook!! Facebook would keep me occupied for hours!! haha

oohhh...i hate the boredom eating thing as well!

if i'm bored at work, i tend to write lists - do a budget for the month (even if i never stick to it!), christmas presents etc. or i update my diary...i've even written letters to friends! i never write letters anymore, it's always emails, so every so often i like to send interstate/overseas friends letters.

if at all possible, i try to get moving as well - i.e. go and check the mail (it's two floors down for me).

dunno if any of those things would work for you?

A monkey could do my job so I get bored a lot of the day too :?

I keep a bottle of pump water at eye level and drink it all day long. It does help.

Also if the phone isn't ringing off the hook I go and hand deliver message slips instead of emailing or calling people so I get to walk about the office.

But books/magazines/newspapers would make the time go by faster. Emailing friends and bugging them helps too :D

Apart from this maybe try and cut back on the low fat food available to you (as a lot of low fat food is high in sugar) so you won't be tempted to eat all of it.

I can't do much as its just me & 1 other person here. I can't really read magazines etc as my boss does pop in from time to time (he is based in our office at the censored.

I have found the News.com website handy.

Anyone know any other web sites that have stuff I could read etc?

If its computer based it would be good as it looks like I am working hehehe

I am slowly getting more work thank god!

When I used to get bored at my old job, where I also had limited net access, I used to get on wotif.com and check out places I wanted to holiday at and check them all out so when it was holiday time I knew where to book !

Maybe you can check out the website for the Perth newspaper. Also, Fox sports is good if you are into sports.

I also look up different recipes to try and make my weekly meal plan when things are quiet.

http://www.pickthebrain.com is a great site!
I also look up recipes.
And http://www.ninemsn.com.au and http://www.yahoo7.com.au for news n stuff...
See if you can find online crosswords and games..

Just hang in there for a lil bit, by the sounds of it you'll be overrun with work before you know it!! :)

I'm a pro at wasting time at work - for the past 2 months it has been DEAD :( :( :( Hardly any work to do :(

Arrghhh I am the queen of wasting time at work!! I don't think I've lifted a finger around here in months!!! Too busy thinking about what I'm going to eat next

Another idea to add to the pool... eBooks. I mostly download stuff to read at home and email it to myself at work, in case I go over my download limits at work and start alarm bells ringing in IT
