yeah I'm the same, I hopefully will lose a few sizes when I finally reach goal.

Once I've had all the kids I want I might think about it, but I'll probably be too old then anyway!! hahaha

I just found this and you only have to have a BMI between 18 and 30. http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/?p=1066

How much would you need to loose to get below 30?

No worries :)

When I saw you saying that they put so much emphasis on BMI I had to chase it up cause there are some big muscly guys in the army and they can't possibly be within the so called "healthy" BMI bracket :)

So now you only have a little more to go Haylez and don't have to be unhealthy :)

I'm happier now. All I ahve to do is meet their fitness requirements, which is something like 7.5 on the shuttle run and a certain amount of sit ups and push ups, which in a couple of weeks I can get there.

That takes a real load off my chest

I'm glad you are happier :)

There is some more stuff on the defense jobs site too about how to get fit and what the exact requirements are so maybe have a look at that info too :)

Will do. I've been looking into the police force since I was about 10, but only recently thought about joining the military as a military cop, being in the service for 7 years (more if I like it) then joining SAPOL when I get out. All depends on whether or not I go back to uni next year.

I'll go have a look at all that info now, cheers

No worries :) Glad I could help.

I always wanted to join the Airforce and go to ADFA but decided in grade 12 that I was probs not going to be very good at the whole discipline thing after watching a ADFA promo at school. :)

only using BMI is an odd thing for the army to do. People who are strong and muscular often don't fit into the normal range of the BMI and I would have thought those are the people the army would want. Bloody weird if you ask me.
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
Back to the drawing board - Let's do this thing!

Yeah I thought it was weird too Tegan but on their site the say that if you do have a BMI over 30 they do a body fat % scan and if you are within the limits you can still get in.

It sounds like they realise that BMI isn't the best measure but it is recognised as a good measure for most of the population.
