Visit to Subways

Postby Angel » Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:32 pm

Does anyone remember the episode Jillian took the Red Team to Subways and asked them to pick what they would have prior to joining Biggest Loser and then told them what they could do now to make it a healthier choice.

One of them picked a 6" Sub and Jillian said they should ask for the bread to be scooped out of each side of the roll, because this would lessen the calories/kilojoules count.

I vaguely remember her saying 200-300 calories (or 48 - 70 KJs), but my memory is sketchy at the best of times.

Anyone?

Found the answer in one of Dolly's posts under Biggest Loser Australia.

Jillian said you can reduce the calorie count of a 12 inch (foot long) Chicken Teriyaki and Salad Sub by 200-300 calories if the inner bread is scooped out.

So as long as you don't have cheese or dressing a 6" Chicken Teriyaki and Salad Sub, with inner bread scooped out would cost you 1015KJs, so you save 525KJs (125 cals) just by asking to scoop out bread - wow! Well worth it hey!

Yes, she also said that the Chicken Teriyaki has quite a bit of salt in it so you should drink extra water to counter balance it.

Oh thank you Dolly,

You've helped me figure something else that had me miffed - I weighed more than usual the day after eating Subways. I thought it was because I ate bread because I don't usually but it was probably the salt, or a combination of the two! I will have to remember if I pick chicken teriyaki to have extra water to make up for the salt content! Even better, perhaps I'll try Turkey next time . . . .

Thanks for the tip.
