Hi Jules,
I have a talking pedometer that I bought from the Homecare magazine that gets delivered to your door. You enter the size of your stride and when you press one of the buttons after taking a walk, it tells you how many steps you have done and also how many kilometres you have walked, it sells for $32.

You've got to measure your step Jules. My step length is about 75cm at a normal walking pace. I know going up hill etc it is longer and on gravel it is shorter. So basically for me 1000 steps is 750m. I read somewhere that to get 10,000 steps you only have to do a 30 minute walk. I know I have to go a lot longer than 30mins to get 10,000 steps. They must be adding in incidental steps! I do about 1km every 12 mins when I am out walking. Tho on the treadmill once I am up to speed and full incline I do about 1km every 8.5 to 9 minutes. Don't just measure it over 1 or 2 steps, it would be better to walk say 10 to 15 steps and mark it and then measure with a measuring tape to see how far it was and divide by the number of steps. Then you should be able to work out how many kms you have done. So hence today I did 7kms on the treadmill and I have worked out that I need to take 1330 steps to do 1km so I have multiplied 7 with 1330 and come up with 9310 steps. So I guess that is not to to bad. But to get that it took me an hour so there is no way I was going to get 10,000 steps in half an hour! I guess if you jogged then maybe :?

yep, measure that stride - and it says in my pedometer book that you should actually do it over 10 steps, measure the distance you went in that 10 steps and divide the distance by 10 to get the distance you travel in 1 step so that you get a fairly representative measurement.
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
Back to the drawing board - Let's do this thing!
