What do you think I should do?

Postby chubbywife79 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:02 pm

I'm wondering should I continue with the shakes or go to Calorie counting. I worked out I have to spend $80 per fortnight to buy shakes which we can't honestly afford. Or should I do calorie counting. I failed it last time.

I don't know which way to go.

what do you think would work better for you? The shakes wouldn't be long term, but may give you that kickstart you need. I don't know much about replacement meals stuff, but can you get benefit from replacing just one meal per day and calorie counting the other meals and snacks?

I'm not sure. My doctor said I'm allowed to replace 1 meal but no more than that. I don't know much about calorie counting.

Maybe you could continue with the shakes, and study up on calories, until you are confident to change over...

Or, could you change the shakes to something that's a bit cheaper? I bought two boxes of Optifast shakes (21 serves per box) for $50, on special at the Chemist Warehouse, and thought that was a pretty good deal :) Or, there could be something cheap on ebay??

It might pay to shop around if you're looking at the shakes. A lady I work with found some to be a bit cheaper than others when she lookied into it. Weight watchers might be good to...because you've got that support at the meetings that you dont have thru the calorie counting (well that is if you take out the forums :P )...just a thought.

I do both. I bought some soy protein powder rather than packet shakes (I couldn't find an affordable vegan safe pre-packaged meal replacements). I track my calories using calorieking.com.au and factor in my soy shake at lunch time.

Are the pre-packaged shakes much different from protein powders? If they're virtually the same you might find it more affordable to buy a big tin of protein powder from a health food shop like I did. I bought a container of Nature's Way Instant Natural Protein for $21 and there are nearly 13 servings per tin.

Im with Sarah, I would continue with the shakes until you are confident that you are confident to switch.

WW would be another good option too.

Good Luck :)

Is the $80 per fortnight replacing all food ?. Coz if so $40 a week for all meals is pretty good. I would have a hard time feeding myself off that for more than a couple of weeks. Fruit and veg alone comes to that for me.

No that 2 meal replacements for the 2 weeks. Hubby said we can't afford it since we got other things to pay off. If I just have the shakes when I don't feel like eating especially on the hot days. It could stretch out. So I can just pay for 1 box which cost $40.

Aren't the CS shakes based on a low carb diet concept?

If you do one meal replacement and eat carbs with your other meals won't it defeat the purpose of the shakes?

Or are you going to follow the rules and concepts of CS eating guidelines with your other meals?
