Motivate me to drink water!

Postby ali76 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 10:39 am

I used to be SO good at drinking water - at least 2-2.5L per day...but that was before I was dieting and exercising.

Now, I struggling to drink 1-1.5L a day and thats before, during and after a hard circuit class at the gym which I didn't do before.

I drink less water now, because I don't want it to show up on the scales if I happen to retain it.....I know it's stupid...??

Help me!!

Weight yourself after you go to the loo. ;) Then it won't show up! ;)

Seriously though, water is great for you. I find I like to think about it as flushing my body clean. When fat "burns", it doesn't just disappear, it's gotta be removed. Water is the thing that does that (well, technically blood, but a big component of that is water). So I think of drinking more water as enabling my body to flush out every last little thing that I burn off. :) Does that help?

Drinking 2L of water per day is just as important as a good diet and exercise.

Those three things go hand in hand.

And, like has been discussed, it aids in weight loss. Also - 90% of the time we think we are hungry... It's actually just dehydration. You're more likely to overeat then.

You're crazy for not drinking the stuff!!!

Drinking lots of water helps to get rid of fluid retention.

You retain water if you aren't getting enough!

Maybe always have a water bottle handy, or if you hate the taste add some lemon juice?

I know, I know...you must all think that I'm MAD!!

I think I'm too obsessed with the scales than overall health, which is not good.

I'm drinking my first 750ml bottle as I read all your comments though...!!

AUGH!!!

I dunno I must be a nut but i love my water when im at work... :?

I can drink anywhere from 1 ltr to 2 ltrs a day while im at work but get me at home and water goes out the window and Im looking for something sweet so then I have my pepsi max yummmo

Only advice i can give you about water is that I feel very clean inside for having it. Not sure thats much help though. Maybe im just a fish out of water lol :?

so r u weighing yourself everyday?
what i do is weigh myself in the morning after ive been to the toilet....drinking the required amount of water happens after this so it really doesnt affect the scales for me.

I TRY to only weigh myself once a week...but sometimes I get a little impatient and weigh myself 2 or 3 times!

I always weigh myself first thing in the morning and after I've been to loo...

I do see a bit of difference if I had heaps of water the day before.

It's silly because I actually enjoy drinking water...I'll keep at it! Just finished my first 750ml bottle, I'll drink that again at the gym tonight so I'll aim for one more before I finish work...2.25L...sigh!

u could try stopping the drinking at a certain time.....like 2hrs b4 bed or something.....
some ppl who dont drink enough water can actually make their bodies retain water...thus seeming to gain.....
give urself a week or so of drinking the water and see what that does to the scales :)

You need to drink your water to lose weight. It shouldn't show up on the scales.

I hate water and have always struggled with drinking (unless its alcohol!) apparently I was a bad drinker when I was a kid too.

I have made a very big effort to drink for the last 6 months. I have a 1.25 litre bottle here at work and I say to myself that I can't leave the office until it's drunk. This persuades me into drinking it! If i drink it I let myself have a can of diet pepsi - most of the time I end up not wanting it!
If I'm at home (at the weekend) I refuse to let myself have the stuff I want e.g. Diet pepsi / Coffee until I have drunk the whole bottle

That's a really good idea. I always bring a can of Pepsi Max to work to have around 3.30 (the time I generally feel picky and like something sweet)...from now on I won't drink it until I've had 2 x my 750ml bottle....then with the extra 750ml while I'm at the gym, I'm over 2L...

It's not like I don't like water though...?? I just need to get over the water retaining fear for weigh in day! 8)
