How long does it take to notice?

Postby ProudMumOf1 » Sat Feb 02, 2008 1:07 pm

I've lost 4.5kg so far but I started at 93kg so what do you all think it will be really noticeable to me. I think personally that the bigger you start out the longer it takes to notice. Simply because at a lighter weight you have less to lose so if someone that was in the 50's-60's lost 5kg it would be really noticeable whereas with me it's not really hmm except maybe a bit in my face.

LOL Sorry for the ramble what do you think?

Hi Jennifer,
Of course this thing varies from person to person and depends on body shape, height, so many factors, but i had the same starting weight as you, i have a hourglass figure and am 160cm. It took about 10-12kgs before people started commenting. And when it did happen it seemed to be overnight! One day EVRYONE commenting!

Your going really well and in no time the compliments will be rolling in :D
Highest Weight - 93kgs
Current Weight - 68.3kgs
Goal Weight - 65kgs

I think you're right that it depends on percentage of weight lost rather than just kilos when it comes to noticing a visual difference. I also think it depends on how long it's taking you to lose the weight too. I've been losing very, very slowly so the only people who have made comments are people who haven't seen me for months at a time!

I agree at times that it can take longer for a bigger person to show, however for me it started showing at the 5kg mark, especially around my face and my belly wasnt as "out there" as it has been !

By 80kg you will definately be noticing the difference. I started at 95 and got down to 84 and people started to comment. Then I gain 5 kg back again:( oh well onward and upward or should that be downward.

Just keep going and the comments will be rolling in before you know it.

Cheers

You might start to notice other changes first - like clearer skin, brighter eyes, stronger nails etc. These are just some of the other perks of weightloss besides the actual weightloss :D

Jodie - I'm confident that you will suceed in getting the gained weight back on. First you need to set your mind. I think weight loss is more of a mind game then anything!

Milkyway - Wow I never thought of it like that before, I can notice clearer skin maybe even looks a tad more tanned.

I definitely agree about the improvement in skin! The other thing I really like about regular exercise is just feeling stronger -- it's really empowering. :)

I'm 175cm and am 100.8kg I've lost 4.7 kgs and although I can't see the difference on myself, I can feel it.
For one I can do my pants up without having to breathe in! and my FAT pants are now getting a bit big.
This morning I asked my fiance to take some pictures of me in undies so that I can compare them to the pictures I got him to take in December. I'm hoping to see a difference! Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I started at about 160kgs and have lost about 13kgs but hardly anyone has noticed. I'm 6'3 and carry my weight all over, so it may be a while yet before I get a few comments about my progress.

Main thing is that I know!!! Even after a couple of days of exercise I felt MUCH better, next thing I noticed after about 4 days was how much clearer and fresher my skin was. I also noticed early on that the exercise put me in better spirits and less depressed/down. Now after a month of exercise I can definitely notice more muscle tone, looser clothes etc. And I've noticed my face is much thinner...for some reason that's where I lose fat first lol.

Just keep at it, notice the changes yourself and stay positive ..... others will eventually catch on.

for me its about 10 or 12 kilos, for me to notice or anyone else. But after that point you start noticing more and more changes as the weeks go on. It's just sticking with it to lose that first 10 or 12 that's the challenge!
26.1 kgs lost... 23kgs to go (and counting!)

Yeah it really depends.

I don't really notice my weight loss when I look at myself, but i'll try on old clothes and find that they are too big, and find that I fit into a 6-8 even though I still think im a large 10!

It also depends what your body image is like as well.
Starting Weight: 62kg Current Weight: 55.0kg Goal Weight: 54kg

Goal Reached 22 February 2008, Must get down to 54kg again!

Yep, I hear ya ^!

2 months ago I went to target and tried on a size 10 pair of 3/4 jeans and I had serious muffin top going on. I went in 2 days ago and tried the exact same ones on (25% off too  ) and they were swimming on me! I ended up getting the 8's which fit like a glove!

So while i've only lost 5kgs or so since then and can't notice a massive difference in the mirror, the clothes don't lie!

And yep, other changes such as fitness, clearer skin, brighter eyes, shinier hair etc.
Saying goodbye to calorie counting AND scales for a while.

Just enjoying the new and improved healthy me and embracing my new lifestyle!
