I have cut out alcohol completely. I had made a pledge to stop for two weeks but I have changed that to no drinking at all. We are trying to conceive so I really wanted to try this as we have some difficulty and this is the last thing to try. And really, I don't miss it at all - so far.

Also I am trying to cut down on bread, I used to have bread for b/fast and lunch so now am limiting it greatly. Also cutting down on coke zero (although I am having one now) but just now and then. As soon as I stop eating so much bread, my stomach goes down, from bloating. I also make sure I do gym at least 3 times a week, I went 4 times last week, and walk every day I don't do gym. All these things seem to be working for me. If only now I could drink all that water :D

I follow a calorie counting diet. I am on Lite and Easy but if there is a week I cannot affort I just count my calories:) I know I can have between 1200-1500cals a day. something like calorie king would make this a breeze.

Here are some things i have been doing and they have really worked for me.

buy lots and lots of veg, you can eat it with everything. eg if you like to eat things like spagetti bolognaise give cut the pasta down buy half add som veg and put the meat on. Make something healthy on the weekend that you can take for lunch everyday during the week like pot of soup. And the other one i think helps is find a sport you love and you will do more exercise, i always loved hockey when i was growing up and have taken it up again and love it still i look forward to training.
Also one thing i learnt the other day is have something full of protein before bed to stop your body going into starvation mode over night, i've just started protein shakes for that and they are yummy.

Things that have most definitely helped me:

1) DRINKING WATER

2) EATING 2 SERVES OF FRUIT PER DAY

3) EATING 5 SERVES OF VEGETABLES PER DAY

4) TAKING A MULTIVITAMIN

5) REALISING THIS IS A LIFESTYLE - NOT A DIET

6) NOT ELIMINATING ANYTHING FROM MY DIET - JUST WATCHING PORTIONS

7) REMEMBERING EVERYTHING IS ALLOWED IN MODERATION

8) KEEPING A FOOD DIARY

9) DOING SOME FORM OF REGULAR EXERCISE

10) HAVING SOME FUN!!!

To add to Lauren's list :D

Plus having the desire to lose the weight. I have found that if you are not in it 100% and not have that desire, it makes it all that harder. Not impossible, just harder to lose the weight. But definitely not to think of this as a DIET. Diets don't work but changes to the life do :D
Start weight - 77kgs
Goal weight - 53kgs
Current Weight - 50.1kgs

What works for me....

1. Water of course!

2. Cutting back the carbs. This is probably the single most effective thing for me personally. Two reasons: 1) keeps the fluid away, and 2) it stops the wild blood sugar fluctuations that you get when you eat high-carb, which means that you are less hungry.

3. The Metabolic Surge program. I've gone through the program a number of times now and, provided I do it properly and don't cheat/binge, it works like crazy! I like the excercise program particualy, something different every day! There's info at http://www.metabolicsurge.com :D

I also significantly cut down on my carbs, the only carbs I get now are from fruit, veg and the occasional chocolate.

I drink plenty of water and have healthy snacks like nuts, excercise everyday and the most important thing; cant wait to be skinny! Motivation is very important but we all have those slip ups

* between 6 & 8 glasses of water a day - I find I lose more when I actually drink 8 glasses
* exercise at least 3 times a week - quite strenous walking does it for me (treadmill and outside)
* sticking to the eating plan and not wavering
* huge amount of willpower coz I will not be fat again

One thing I've noticed is that no-one has said that they cut down on their salt intake. I hate bland food so I'm inclined to use a fair bit of salt - which I believe can cause water retention and inhibit weight loss. :? This is one thing I don't believe I can give up!!!

I don't eat much salt to start with so for me that has never really been a problem but salt does make you retain water so try to cut down as much as you can on salt.

ive never been one for salt but.....
one thing i could never give up was salted chips...... now i just dont eat chips at all

my mother told me about a product called Herbamare, you can get it from supermarkets, the container i have costs about 10.50 for a 250g shaker container.... (i think there is a smaller one )but it lasts forever.... you really really dont have to use much.... it is herb and vegetables seasoned sea salt.... it is amazing stuff..........
