Losing too much maybe?

Postby Mikura » Wed Mar 19, 2008 9:31 am

So today i weighed in.
I am 88.4.
Last week i was 91.9
I think thats about 3.5 kilos off.
I dont know that its very healthy.
Its a lot of weight in a week.
Ive only changed one or two things though.
I no longer eat pasta, rice or cous cous.
And i walk maybe 30 minutes more a day.

Im hoping its not coming off so fast that it will go back on.
Not to say that i dont love the fact that theres such an awesome change on the scales.
But i want it to stick.
And knowing my determination of late it will.
^^

Anyway, i kinda of wanted to ask... how can i counter balance such a weight loss in my body so it doesnt get angry at me?
I have been feeling tired and i know that my body hasnt enjoyed it really.

They say a healthy weight loss is between .5-1 kilo a week...how long have you been trying? A lot of people find they lose a lot in the first few weeks then it evens out?

Are you eating enough? And enough of the right things? You don't want your body to go into starvation mode..

Drinking lots of water?

The last thing you want is to be losing your muscle tone...only the fat bits :)

Yes... well im mostly eating salads and nuts.
But plenty of them.
I eat steamed vegies/boiled vegies and savouries also.

But im getting plenty of good sugar from fruit like bananas and apples.
And plenty of fats from cashews, avocado and potato.

I have only recently given up the carbs like pasta, rice etc a week and a half ago.
So maybe thats just the change...
I do look skinnier i think.
I definitely want to lose weight and not muscle.
>.<

And yes... i have been drinking a lot of water.
Roughly 3 litres.

A lot of people lose a lot of weight in the first week, its kinda like a detox.. when you eat healhthy and drink heaps of water lotsa bad stuff is flushed out - kinda like water weight.

Keep with it for about a week... it will probably calm down.

Maybe check with calorieking.com.au to make sure you're eating enough calories....it also tells you what percentage you're eating with carbs, fat and protein....I think it should be 60 carbs, 20 fat & 20 protein...

You're doing well though! Just make sure you're not 'dieting' as opposed to changing your eating habits for good!

Good luck!

As mentioned above the initial weeks of a diet will usually end up in you losing a lot of water weight. That won't cause any problems health-wise. The problem with continued excessive weight loss is that you lose muscle as well as fat and water. If you work resistance exercises into your routine (weights for instance) you should prevent too much muscle loss, and make sure to do cardio work to keep the muscles in your heart healthy. Eat plenty of protein for muscle growth as well.

If you've only started dieting don't panic yet. Your weight loss should slow to about a kilo per week within a few weeks. If you keep losing weight dramatically then it might be best to see a doctor to make sure there isn't anything else causing it.
