Water Retention/Bloating on the Pill

Postby loveat116 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 5:17 pm

Anyone experience it?

I get bad bloating on the pill... although I dont know if its the pill or if its something else.

Should i go OFF the pill and see if it gets better? Anyone experienced any bad symtoms of the pill?

It's been a long time since I was on the pill, but for me the main side effect was weight gain. I just did a Google though and that new pill yasmin said it is good for people who experience tenderness and bloating of the abdomen/breasts on the regular pill, so it looks like it might be a side effect? Could be a whole range of other things though, like a dietary allergy to wheat or dairy etc.
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).

I'm not on the pill nor have I even been on the pill, but I do have in implant in my arm which is an alternative to the pill and I have experienced similar symptons.

I spoke to a person trainer and he said to eat more fruit cos the potasium in fruit can stop fuid being retained and also drinking more water can stop that too, if you drink more water that the body will not need to retain so much fluid, also exercise ad healthy diet can help too, that's what worked for me, I also drank some green tea to help get rid on some fluid.

I don't know what to do about the bloating though, I guess just google it, I think I might do that now.

I hope I was of some help

Hey,

I'm on the pill myself and I would rather be bloated than pregnant! LOL I wouldn't advise going off the pill in case of an unplanned pregnancy, but there are some things you can try.

* Speak to your doctor about trying a different pill, I'm on Diane and that one's OK for me.
* Is it possible that it may be due to a type of food you're eating? Milk, lots of carbs, increase on fibre or protein?
* For water retention, I used to take a Blackmore diuretic (dandelion extract) which made me go to the loo every hour, but make sure you take your pill and any diuretic at least 2 hrs apart, because the pill may not be fully absorbed (just like with dietary fibre).

All the best!

if you find that the pill is still making you bloated there are alternatives, the implant that I have, would be a better alternative, it still has side effects but less than the pill, you still get bloated but not as much, or there in an injection you can get every 3 months that has even less side effects don't know too much about that one but neither is good if you don't like needles

That is exactly what i was going to say. Speak to your doctor don't just take yourself off and on the pill.

Last time I touched those things was about 7 years ago or more. I can't take them, I just spew them back up again! Even the mega low doses.... blegh!!!

But yeah apart from the spew, mega fluid retention as well.

Yuck, if you don't need them, turf them..... yuck

Yeah exactly, I might go off them for a month and see what happens. I started gaining weight when I went on the pill too.
