Hey Charli hun,
Just want to offer you my support
This is definitely no easy way out. It's such a huge lifestyle change and I would say harder to deal with. For instance when things get incredible bad for you emotions wise and you aren't prepared to deal with them up front and go to have a binge to hide away from that emotion it will be impossible for you to do so (not saying that this is something you do or will do, just an example
). So with everything else the surgery brings you'll have lots more to deal with, because you won't have opportunities to fall of the wagon and get back on so to speak.
Holy, I can be a bit of a binge drinker
its been a good 1 and a half months since I've touched alcohol and I think with one drink I'll be a drunken bum
anyway back on point, you'll also be limited on the amount of alcohol you can have too
You still need to have good healthy food to get the nutrition your body needs. So its definitely not an easy way out by allowing you to eat crap food and still lose weight. Its just an aid, an internal portion control to help you on your weight loss journey.
As you were saying, 18mths is a long time to wait and also time enough for you to lose some or a lot of weight. Hopefully all goes well for you when you see the surgeon next month sweets
