I'm back and I need some advice...

Postby yellowroses » Thu May 01, 2008 10:47 pm

Hi there guys...

Well, I signed up here a while ago, but am still so lazy, I haven't lost weight, but I haven't gained any either, which I suppose is a good thing, but something has triggered inside of me, realising that I am very overweight (I think it was from watching biggest loser where the girl started off a size 26 and now she's a size 10).

I'm 19 years old, weigh 120kgs and want to get down to about 65 - 70 kgs.

I bought a treadmill, as I told you guys last time I was on here, however I don't use it all that often, I just cannot find the willpower inside of myself.

Sometimes I get angry with people assuming that I eat terribly because of my weight. I don't. I love salads, veges, fruit etc. I cant eat very many sweets or fried foods. I eat pizza maybe once a month, and I can't eat ice-cream all that often because I have a problem with lactose. I don't eat chips, I prefer a few pretzals or rice crackers, so it's not like I shovel crap into my mouth constantly. So I just don't get why I am so big.

I also have IBS, which means that I cannot eat fried foods or anything with too much oil, sweets, lactose, nuts and seed, anything with too much fibre (so certain vegetables and fruits etc are out), not too much red meat, herbs and spices (except fresh basil and oregano). This gets me stuck with recipes. Usually I eat really boring food, and it makes me frustrated because I want to diet, but not at the expense of flavour, however I don't want to get godawful sick when eating these flavourful foods.

I lack motivation. I'm married and my husband is always telling me how wonderful I look etc. He's done the whole weight loss thing before he met me, he used to weigh about 120kg and began to walk all the time and got his way down to about 75kgs, however he still eats crap (like pizza and chips aaallll the time), but just controls his weight with his exercising.

Anyway, as I was saying, I lack motivation. I get bored so easily. If I don't see massive results within a week I give up. I've tried weight watchers points diet, however I continuously forget to write down what I've eaten and forget to count points. I've attempted to write up a menu for myself, however my husband does most of the cooking in the household and wont listen to me when I tell him to cook what's on the menu. I want to try some shakes and stuff, but I know that they aren't a forever thing.

Can someone please help me?? I'm so desperate!!! I've set myself this goal, and I want to achieve it in about a year, but at the moment it looks so hopeless.

Oh and I just want to add as well, that because of my IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), it's so severe that I cannot live very heavy things, like over 2kgs, and overly strenuous activities make me very sick, I've had to change careers because of this problem, going from hospitality to admin.

Hey yellowroses
This probably won't help coz I'm in exactly the same boat as you. If you do a search for my posts on this forum, the bulk of them are "Hey, I'm back and this time I'm going to do it!" posts and guess what? I'm bigger than ever!!!
So I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone.
Have you thought about seeing a dietician? Alot of them are covered by Medicare if you have a referal from your doctor and with your IBS you would definately get a referal. Have you chatted to your doctor at all?
What kind of food does hubby cook? Have you sat him down and told him how important it is to you to lose some weight? If you get him on board, stoke his ego a bit (' i cant do this without you babe!') and let him know how important it is, he might be more receptive to helping out. Maybe rather than give him menu's, help him make the food he'd usually make but the healthy version?
I'd really say to talk to your doctor first though. They can be so helpful and a dietician might be the way to go.
Good luck! I know what its like to have NO motivation...
Life is too important to be taken seriously!

I have IBS too and it really sucks!
I don't have it anywhere near as bad as you either, it seems!
I've narrowed some of my triggers down to: Full fat Milk, Icecream, Cream, soft cheese any fried/greasy foods also TOTM has an effect. If I get anxious, excited or too hot and bothered (I'm getting paronoid about my wedding day for this too!) they are all triggers.

I used to dread going out for the evening with friends as it usually consisted of Dinner, Wine and dancing with a late night/early morning. Most of the time though I was ill before I even left the restaurant! IBS is a really depressing thing to have and I really sympathise with you.

I've been dieting since January and my IBS is better than it has ever been!
I also had a gall bladder issue last year and ended up getting it taken out, Ever since then my IBS seems better too - Not sure if this was a co-incidence?! it all effects the same parts of the body - This isn't a recommendation! just an observation

Have you been to the doctors and got him to check out your thyroid, blood sugars etc to make sure its not a medical problem preventing you from loosing weight? Maybe your doctor could refer you to a dietian?

I can't advise you about the shakes etc as I have only ever done it once (about 10 years ago) I do Weight Watchers and find it really works for me. You just need to find a food regieme that works for you. Concentrate on just the food part first get comfortable with that and then gradually bring in the excercise part things won't be so hard to stick to then.

Take care mate & goodluck!

Thanks guys :D

It's nice to know that I'm not the only person with IBS struggling to loose weight!

My doc has ruled out thyroid and stuff like that for why I can't lose weight, he told me that it might be from the pill, so I stopped taking it but I haven't lost any weight still.

That's ok :)

I'll get there!!!

Hubby made me some oats for breakfast coz I asked him to, instead of making me lots of toasted sandwiches like he usually does. hehe

There is a small benefit to IBS though. If you have an "episode" the day before weigh in it can really help that week! :D

Ahaha so true!!!

Ok, I just bought some optislim things to help get my weight loss journey started.

I had a friend who did it, but he did it a bit differently which is how I'm going to do it. He lost 60kgs, so I'm gonna do it the same way.

The daily diet goes like this from Monday - Friday:

Breakfast: Oats (Which fortunately, I can still eat!), and 2 pieces of toast with vegemite.
Lunch: Optislim shake
Dinner: Optislim shake and if I feel hungry afterwards, then I will have either a vegetable soup or a piece of toast with tuna on top.

For weekends I will do breakfast and lunch the same, however I'll let myself eat whatever I want for dinner. I'm hoping that this will stop cravings for junk during the week. My friend did this as well, along with half an hour of walking 4 times a week and he lost a lot of weight.

I'm hoping that I will just lose weight to get me motivated enough to change my eating habits properly and start exercising habitually. I also have family coming down in a couple of months and I want to lose about 10kgs before they get here because I know that they're gonna make gripes at me for being so fat.

Wish me luck!

Hello yellow roses :P

I've never done shakes so I don't know much about them, but is that enough to eat?? Eating too little is almost as bad (in different ways!) as eating too much!!

Good luck with your endeavours...I hope everyone here can help you with the motivation you need :D

Hey Ali,

I don't think it would be too little to eat, because the oats are a low GI food, so they keep you going throughout the day, and the amount of carbohydrates in breakfast are what you burn during the day. The protein in the shakes are what keep you full, however if I do get hungry, the small amount of carbohydrates and the large amount of protein in the tuna on toast will fill me up and keep me satisfied. In all it's about 6000kj a day. I expect to feel hungry for a couple of days into it, but I think after that I will get used to it :)
