I say they are worth it, mate (I should know, I tried one). I had a huge weight problem before and a blood pressure that went up with it. But with a personal trainer, I kissed over 15 kgs of weight goodbye and my blood pressure significantly lowered. It was fantastic!

I go once a week with my sister and it costs us $45 each, and I don't have a gym membership, she just brings all the equipment and everything.
I think it's great because they give you exercises based at your current level and as professionals they are trained to know areas of weakness and design a program around then (for example I have a bad back so I worked on core strengthening). I lost so much more weight with one than I ever did on my own, plus they moniter your progress and can make training more interesting like doing boxing and things. And finally, technique is so important when working out and they can help you with those things too! It's also the extra motivation....
I know people who have had bad experiences with them but if you do your research you can get a good one, I've been with mine for about a year and a half now and it's honestly the best investment in my health I've ever made but that's just me!! Good luck if you decide to get one!
