Totally Confused

Postby GoddessInside » Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:19 am

Ok ... so here's my little saga !

Today is weigh in, and I jumped on the scales last night right before I went to bed to get a sneak peak of what I should be expecting today.. yes I know its bad, but hey, Im only human ! Last nights weigh in ( after I had eaten, and completely naked ) I weighed in at 171.2. I was ecstatic as I knew I always lose a couple of grams overnight and was aiming at the 170's for this morning !

Enter this mornings events .....

Woke up, did my usual routine for weigh in, jumped on the scales and ..... 174.8 ! How is it physically possible to put on 3.6kgs over night ?!?!!? I jumped on the scales a couple of times and nope there you had it 174.8....I was in denial, so I shot over to mums and jumped on her scales and there you had it 174.8

How is this physically possible ?

No idea GI, I have had the scales a go bit weird on me at times either by reading higher or they just can't make up their mind but they right themselves again in a day or two....

As stupid as it sounds I think weather changes and humidity can do strange things to them at times, once the weather settles so do the scales.

I'm with you on this one...sooooo frustrating and totally unmotivating. I know I put on weight overnight with my period at least a couple of kilo's!? :( Fluid retention, constipation can be other factors?

Are you also measuring your centimetres lost each week by any chance? Has there been a change there perhaps?

I'd totally forget about the numbers today (evil numbers), keep going on what has already been great success and the check back with numbers next week! Cold comfort, I'm afraid, but I hope it helps a little.

Totally unmotivating. But I've found the same thing. My theory is that the scales aren't too precise and a bit off.

Its not possible for your weight to fluctuate that much over night, you have two options, don't do the sneaky weigh in the night before so you have the one weight each week, may not be the ighter weight but you won't be so disappointed or 2 weigh in again the next morning and see if it differs. like sue said it could be the scales.
Don't be discouraged.

I so hate it when that happens.I find usually I can reasonably accurately estimate what my weight will be according to my food intake and exercise, but like you, find that occassionally there is an anomaly. If you're heading in the right direction and been sticking to your plan, have faith in yourself that it will correct.

Consumption of salt can have a dramatic effect. If I eat high salt food eg a cup of instant noodles + 2 cup of soup in 1 day, I easily put on 2+kg of fluid. In my case it heads straight for the bust, same as PMS fluid retention. If I keep my salt content lower it will flush out about 1 1/2 to 2 days later. This is like clockwork for me.

I've had this happen to me. I bring it down to normal fluctuations in my body relating to things like my salt intake, and my period etc. I strictly only weigh myself once a week though, and have notice trends, like if I put on 2 kgs one week and then get my period, then next week I have a larger than normal loss because my body rights itself again. And I have the same effect with salt that someone else mentioned - if I eat something that makes me retain water it can easily change my weight by a few kgs which is so frustrating. On top of that I don't have a particularly active bowel, and I've been told you can store up to 5kg of waste in your intestines and stuff, so if your body has been filtering waste over night this could maybe affect your weight? I dunno, but I can understand how you feel.

Hope it works out for you soon :-)

Oh No! Not again. :?
Could it be fluid retention due to the change in weather?
