I'm Pregnant!!!

Postby yoyogirl88 » Mon Oct 20, 2008 10:19 am

Probably not the right spot for this so Ill add in a weight loss question. Is it safe to lose weight when you are expecting?

Im only a few weeks probably so its early days yet. I just wanted to share the news with all the people who have been supporting me while I have been losing weight.

I'm pretty sure it's ok as long as you don't over do it but best to check with your gp or hospital.

Congrats again :D .

Congratulations yoyo! :D

Maintaining balanced nutrition during pregnancy is very important. Trying to lose weight could be risky as you may have difficulty ensuring baby receives all the nutrients it requires for healthy development. Seeking medical advice is the way to go, and you may want to see a dietician. Don't feel that just because you are preganant that you need to blow out like a puff fish. You can keep working on your fitness and aim to not put on excess weight. It is a matter of balance. By looking after yourself and keeping up healthy habits you will be giving your baby the best chance and helping yourself to be in a good position to lose weight once baby is born.

OMG!! That's awesome news. Congratulations.

I know I do this alot, but Mum's a midwife, so I guess her advice is in the right place this time. The best bet when you're preggers is just to stay active...don't use being "duffed" as an excuse to sit round (which I know you wouldn't do anyway). She always said to just go for walks...stay active, and don't let it stop you from living you're life. Light excersise and healthy eating.

Good luck :)

A friend of mine was put on a diet by her dietician when she got pregnant to stop her from gaining too much weight. She only gained 5 kilos the whole time she was pregnant. Just keep up your healthy eating. This is a special time in your life and you should enjoy it but remember that if you gain an extra 20 kilos now you will have to work that much harder to get it off when you have had the baby.
Congratulations by the way. I dont know why I didnt say that first.
Need to get motivated.

Hi YoYo. Congratulations. How exciting. When I was pregnant with my third daughter, I was determined to be as healthy as I could during the pregnancy. The day before I gave birth, I actually weighed 1 kilo less than when I first became pregnant. A few weeks after having my baby, I was 15 kilos lighter than when I became pregnant. The doctors kept a close eye on me, and as I wasn't dieting, I was just being healthy, they were really supportive. God I felt good after having her. I wish I had of kept up that healthy lifestyle as a stay at home mum to 3 little girls - then I wouldn't be where I am today! Ahhh well, at least I am back on the healthy band wagon now.
Good Luck with your pregnancy. I hope you glow with health and enjoy every minute of it.

Congrats Yoyo! :)

Best advice is to be healthy - don't worry too much about "dieting" but eat healthy foods and stay active. Gentle exercise, like walking or yoga is the best. You shouldn't really be losing weight during your pregnancy - but a good aim is to aim for maintaining your weight (so you are losing what the baby/placenta/amniotic fluid is gaining). That equates to a real loss of around 1kg per month, because that's what you would usually put on.

Best of luck!

CONGRATULATIONS

Such an exciting (and scary) time of your life.

I had gestational diabetes with my first son so was put on quite a strict diabetic eating plan - not really a diet.
This was all done through the hospital where I had my little man, so it was all monitored. I lost weight after I went on this plan (after Miles came out) so it is possible, but I agree with everyone else... see you GP to check everything out.

CONGRATS again.
