No sugar = cranky?

Postby milkyway » Sun Jan 04, 2009 6:02 pm

I am into day 4 of no sugar, no pepsi max and no alcohol. I think the lack of sugar is making me cranky. Seriously cranky! My poor husband has just gone fishing for a few hours to give me some 'alone time' and give him some relief. Today is the last day of our holidays and I just don't want to go anywhere. Instead of having fun, I've been cleaning, tidying, cooking, washing and now ironing. Hmmm - no wonder I'm cranky :P

I had my period last week so it's not PMT. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like your body is detoxing. Why not have natural sugars to help you along like an apple?

our bodies always go through withdrawls when you take away sugary foods or cafine, basically anything bad. The best thing you can do is just take it one day at a time and eventually you will feel fantastic. Also, drink loads of water to help flush it all out of your system, this should get you feeling great quicker. You can also use it to your advantage- i know when i am cranky and want to bite somones head off a good walk always makes me feel good and i usually end up pushing myself even harder to cope with the stress.
Just dont give in and have something sugary, it will just make it harder in the long run even if you feel good at the time.

How about a glass of warm honey and lemon. The honey will help with the sugar fix but it's a comfort drink, especially if you used to get it as a kid so it should help with the grumpyness :D

I was just about to ask about this! I am feeling the same way, just having a low-cal cordial with soda water now to try and combat this low... grrr.

I avoid being moody by staying cranky all the time, consistency is the key  my husband is long suffering, thank goodness he isn't a fisherman :D
Then again, he has mentioned to the dog (who is male) that at certain times of the month that it's time to go to the bunker for protection  maybe I need to develop a sugar dependency
