Lose Weight in 3 Easy Steps

Here is an article I wrote for the latest issue of Focus On. I hope you find it useful:

We live in a society that demands instant gratification in many areas of life. Consider things such as food, with fast-food outlets and microwave ovens; communication, with e-mail and mobile phones; and of course, entertainment, with TV, DVDs, the internet and the countless number of video games.

The same demands are placed in the areas of weight loss too. People want to lose the fat that hangs from their belly or that sits on their thighs in days or a few weeks at most despite the fact that it has taken many years to accumulate in the first place.

As a result, these people are easy prey for the ‘fly-by-night’ weight-loss merchants promising miracles from their various products. The fact remains that the body can lose ‘weight’ easily enough but it fights every step of the way when you want to lose fat!

When people do lose weight quickly the vast majority of it is water, stored carbohydrate, protein and very little fat. The human body views body fat as a precious resource, something that helps us survive if we are ever faced with a famine.

Of course, when people follow one of the numerous ‘fad diets’ that promise dramatic weight loss virtually overnight, they lose weight, but unfortunately, ‘biological alarm bells’ start ringing in the body and when these people return to normal eating habits the weight piles back on, and almost always with re-inforcements!

The only way to lose fat and keep it off is to lose it slowly so the body thinks it is being well fed and can afford to get rid of the excess flab. Let’s face some facts, if it has taken you 10, 20 or even 30 years to become overweight do really think you’re going to get it off in a few short weeks! We need to be realistic with our weight-loss expectations but more importantly, our fat-loss expectations.

Nevertheless, there are some simple ways to speed up the process so as the days, weeks and months go by your body fat and weight continue to spiral downward exactly where you want it and you can easily achieve this without starving yourself or performing gruelling exercise programs.

1. Follow a suitable nutritional plan
The first step in losing weight fast and most importantly body fat, is to follow a suitable nutritional plan. Here is a basic outline of what that should look like:

• 5 or 6 small meals a day
• A portion of protein with every meal
• More low-density carbohydrates and less high-density carbohydrates
• Normal, ‘everyday’ foods
• Plenty of clean, filtered water

2. Perform a regular exercise routine
Many people incorrectly assume that an exercise routine needs to be difficult or intense in order to be effective. In actual fact, the most important aspect of an exercise routine is that it is consistent. It needs to be performed it at least 5 days a week.

It doesn’t matter what type of exercise you perform or how long you do it for, what matters most is that you do it! The type of exercise you do is completely up to you. It may be walking the dog, walking by the river with your partner, an aerobic session at the gym or local rec centre, a workout in a gym or at home, a boxing session with your trainer or simply peddling or stepping away on an exercise machine.

Choose the type of exercise that you enjoy doing and can see yourself doing long term. This is the best way to make it a permanent lifestyle habit that will help you lose weight (and fat) and most importantly, keep it off.

3. Use a range of supplements to promote fat burning in the body
There are many supplements that claim to promote fat burning and therefore weight loss in the body. Only use products that are proven to be effective.

Thermogenics are one group of supplements that have been shown in research and in real life to be effective at promoting weight loss. They are known as ‘fat-burning catalysts’, which simply means they speed up the fat-burning process in the body; they take you from ‘Point A’ to ‘Point B’ faster.

Unfortunately, thermogenics aren’t for everyone. If people suffer from high blood pressure, use blood pressure medication, are over 65 years of age or under 18, or are pregnant or nursing, then they should avoid using thermogenics.

Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) is a suitable alternative to thermogenics and is an effective fat burner in therapeutic doses. HCA also inhibits the conversion of carbohydrates into fat and has appetite-suppressing effects. HCA is the main ingredient in SoLean 50+, which is safe for everyone to use.

Glucose disposal agents (GDAs) are another group of supplements that are effective at promoting the fat-burning process in the human body. They help to minimise insulin secretion by the pancreas and also assist insulin in its function.

Insulin is a storage hormone that promotes fat storage as well as inhibits fat mobilisation and utilisation (fat burning) by the body. By keeping insulin low, you make it easier to access and use stored body fat as a fuel.

GDAs also help to get rid of sugar cravings that some people get in the afternoons and evenings.

Finally, thyroid-support supplements are also beneficial. Whenever someone wants to lose weight they should mildly reduce their food intake. However, by doing so, over time, their metabolism slows down due to a reduction of their metabolic rate resulting from down-regulation of the thyroid gland.

Specific nutrients can actually help to up-regulate thyroid function and prevent this metabolic-slowdown from occurring.

Overall, if you seriously want to lose weight and keep it off, forget about following the latest ‘fad diet’ or trying to starve yourself, deep down you know these approaches don’t work anyway, right?

All you have to do to get the results you’ve been dreaming of for years is to simply put a little bit of effort into making some simple changes to your lifestyle and then be patient by allowing enough time for the results to come.

If you do, you will be amazed at how easy it is to lose weight and most importantly, lose fat, and keep it off for the rest of your life.

Plus, the added benefit of following this simple 3-step weight-loss system is the feeling you will have by doing it. There is no better feeling that being fit, healthy, strong and of course, being happy with the way you look. Make the commitment, take the steps and reap the rewards that follow. You’ll be glad you did!
