Weightloss Plateau

Postby lela » Fri May 01, 2009 5:17 pm

Hi everyone
Im so so frustrated and angry....
So far I've lost about 15kg and I have about 8 to go, and my weight loss has hit this massive plateau. Im currently doing Jenny Craig on the 5000kj menu and over the last three weeks I have lost 100g, gained 100g and gained 300g. I cant believe this- I'm actually gaining weight.
I've gone through with my consultant and I'm not cheating at all, and I'm exercising about 5 times a week either interval running 45min, brisk walking 45min or sometimes doing weights or a spin class at the gym.
I'm really losing faith. I still have weight to lose and although I dont want to start overeating and regain weight, I'm wondering if this is normal, or perhaps whether I should try something new.
Please help.
Thanks :)

How frustrating!!!! I know when I plateau I mix things up a little to " shock" my system out of its rut. I normally mix up my exercise and/or cut it down for a week ( or if have been too lazy I up it) , I also look at the foods I have been in taking and ( I don't know anything about jenny craigs food so I am just stating what is best for me  )if I have been eating mainly salad/vegies and lean meat, then I will throw more carbs in for the week ( I wont go over bored, but have enough for my body to have to work harder than it has been to process it) or if I have been having a few to many carbs I will lower the intake of them. I find this shakes up my system and breaks the routine it is in .... it is just like weight lifting..... if you lift the same weight day in day out your body will get to a point where it wont gain any more muscle and it wont really beifit your muscle grow...it will just maintain it, but if you add a little or do more reps your body is always doing something different. Hope this gives you a few ideas or helps

I forgot to say if you do choose to cut down exercise or add something different to your diet, you may gain weight...so be prepared! you really only want to give it a little nudge not go over board. I always have a nice weight lose the week after though and makes up for the 100gm or so gain.

I'm not familiar with JC... but if you are having 5000kj a day, you aren't eating enough.

5000kj is only about 1190cals, and your body needs ATLEAST 1200cals a day just to fuction, not to mention exercise ontop. I think you need to up your eating a bit. I'm surprised JC would let you eat so little, eating too little is unhealthy.

With JC they take all your measurements and determine which caloric level fits in with your activity level. It is all done in a program based on your BMR and all sorts of things. I am on 6400kj cos i am very active - lots of people are on 5000kj and it works for them, perhaps they are smaller than me and have less to lose therefore their body needs less fuel?
There are three levels 5000, 6400 and 7200 i think. Food is very balanced, i.e you eat HEAPS of veges, salads, 2 serves fruit, lots of grains, yoghurt etc.. i wouldnt by any means say JC is "unhealthy" 1190 calories and 1200 calories is the same thing. I cant fault the program so far! :)
