Weight loss supplements

Postby chocoholic » Fri Jul 03, 2009 4:50 pm

I was wondering if its worth taking weight loss supplements, do they actually work?
I was in the supermarket and there was quite a few to choose from, fat blaster, fat magnet, blackmores, etc. A bit pricey too.
Has anyone had experience with them?

Hi chocoholic,

Weight loss supplements won't change your attitude towards food and some of them can be really dangerous because they often contaion high doses of caffeine and other stimulants that muck around with your sleep patterns and leave you feeling wired. The idea is that high doses of these substances is supposed to raise your metabolism - but the jury is out on that one.

Even if they do raise your metabolism for a short time, is it really worth the risk to your health not to mention the money you are spending?

Natural or herbal weight loss products are not necessarily safe or effective either. Often when we see the words ‘natural’ or ‘herbal’, we assume that means safe, but this isn't necessaily true. These products are not usually scientifically tested to prove that they are safe or that they even work. Many diet pills contain ephedra which can cause serious health problems and even death. Even those that claim to have no ephedra at all often have other equally dangerous ingredients.

Whatever you choose to do, read the labels carefully.

Good luck!

regards
