Gained 2kgs in one day???

Postby weightspender » Mon Jul 27, 2009 12:21 am

Okay so i checked my weight on saturday, scale said 68.5kg
After my workout on saturday i ate alot and i ate alot today.

I check my weight today (sunday) and it is 70.5kg.

How is this possible? Did i even loose the weight at all?
Was it water weight that i lost? is it water weight that i just put on now?

Without being too graphic, it's probably food still in your digestive/waste system. Especially since you ate quite a lot over the past couple of days. You may think 2kg is a lot for undigested food to weigh, but remember that fibre also absorbs water. If you've eaten a lot of carbs they will have soaked up additional water which would increase your weight.

The other thing that can cause wild weigh fluctuations is fluid retention. If it's hot, if you've eaten too much sodium, if it's That Time of the Month or if you (ironically) haven't been drinking much water, then this could account for a sudden weight gain. Not necessarily 2kg worth of weight, though, which is why I think the first answer is most likely.

I have that too. its really dissapointing when that happens. the body holds onto 3grams of fluid for every gram of carbs you eat in a binge as it thinks ooooh feast after a famin kinda thing. you'll find within a day or 2 most of that will go away. there will be some gain with the extra calories eaten tho.
I find things like beer and bread are awful for adding the scales number up and up when you seem to be trying so hard, and then one BBQ and BAM 2kilos gain.

I find if I have had a meal out or a takeaway I will hold onto the extra weight for 3 or 4 days while it works itself through but once I have rid of it it usually (9 times out of 10) spurs on a bigger than normal loss for the week.

Most of it will probably only be sodium and fluid as you can not gain 2 kilos of fat in a day.

2kg in one day, huh? Interesting...

May I ask when exactly the following day did you weigh yourself? Upon waking up? After breakfast? In the afternoon?

My weight constantly changes by 1 or 2kg.
Is there any accurate way to measure how much weight i've lost?

Is it fair to say that the lowest i weigh on the scale is my real weight?

try not weighing every day there really isint much point to it- once a week is more than enough.
