Realistic Time To Lose 26kg & Calories advice?!

Postby julzmusic » Thu Nov 26, 2009 11:56 am

Hey guys,
As of this coming Monday (after my birthday weekend)
I plan on starting a reliable, healthy excercise and food regime, not necessarily, strict and unflexible, but more something I really should be doing anyway.
It involves doing at least an hour and a half of exercise per day, ranging in difficulties and spanning over the entire day (I.E walk in morning, gym at night) etc.

As well as concentrating on my diet, and calories count....

I was just wondering, two things...

A. If I am currently at 85kg and I follow this exercise/food plan religiously (as often as I could) from experience, I know every person is completely different, but what could be an estimated realistic time that it would take for me to get back down to 58kg?

B. Does anybody know how to work out how many calories I should be having per day? To get down to my proposed/desired weight??? I read on an american website (after it calculated it) it was still up really high, infact dad said i would struggle to eat that much junk in a day to get up to what it was telling me my recommended weightloss calories should be. So, would like to know if your not sure, maybe of a reliable calories calculator???

Thanks guys!!!

Hi Julz, and welcome to the forum. 100g a day loss for me is realistic, so that is about 260 days plus 20 days because with 5kg or less to go, I'd lose about 70g a day. So that's 280 days, which is September 2nd next year according to Wolfram Alpha.

As for energy use, enter your details into this calculator http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ which is the energy needed to keep your body working. If you're 6 ft, enter 5 ft 12 inches. This gives me 1883 Calouries, which is 7880 kj.

Using http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/

To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:
If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9

So that is 7880 x 1.2 = 9500kj. If I want to lose 100g a day (3500 kj) I need to eat 6000kj.

Alright, at my current weight and exercise, to maintain it i have to have 2,032.89kj's per day, thats with no exercise
If i were to do my exercise plan, I'd have to have 2800+ calories per day to maintain my current weight.

So, this means, hopefully... If I can cut my calories to 1500 and do my exercise plan... I'm no good at maths, how many grams would that work out to per day???

:)

Thank you again!

Check out http://www.calorieking.com.au, it will calculate the correct amount of calories for you, has an online food diary and can even generate a meal plan for you if you want. The best thing is it's free! And it works, look at my ticker... :)

Let's see - 2,032 Calouries - 1500 Calouries = 532 Calouries = 2230 kj, which is 2230/15000 = 148 grams a day. By the way, the last line in my first posting contains a calculation mistake so disregard that line. The number of kilojoules in a kilogram of fat is 15,000.
