The Drink

Postby sarahm » Sun Jan 31, 2010 3:50 pm

hi-i know what is going on for me and my weight-gain. DRINKING> having afew glasses of wine at night starts the domino effect of nibbling and night eating. so, am pledging here to STOP IT for February and see how that helps me. does anyone else suffer from the need/want of having a drink at night to unwind??/ it just wrecks all my hard work ...nasty empty calories! not going to be easy, but i guess i have done it before! wish me luck. :)

Ohhh... welcome to the club! That's where most of my unwanted calories come from. Although I don't tend to nibble, the alcohol alone adds enough calories that all my good work is instantly undone when I get home in the evening.

It was getting bad towards the end of last year when I was hideously busy and stressed. Every night I'd be reaching for a wine or three to unwind.

I'm determined to stop this in 2010. I'm going to unwind with a cup of decaf coffee in the evening instead. On days when I have a drink I'm only going to have two 100ml glasses.

Good luck with your alcohol free February. I hope you go well!

Sounds good! I don't know if I want to give up all booze for a month, though. I already have two pub functions this week with work colleagues not to mention an opened bottle of wine that needs using before it turns to vinegar!

How about I make a pledge of no more than two small glasses on wine per night, with at least four alcohol free days per week? We can keep each other honest in this thread. :D

Well, I drank less than usual on the weekend but more than I should have. I'll count that as some kind of win!

This is totally me! Haha...I cannot believe how much I can drink in one night! Empty calories! Sometimes my weekends are out drinking with friends Fri, Sat & then a Sunday session :? not good! I have recently quit smoking so that means I am having a booze free few weeks. I have gone almost 2 weeks already without a single drink! I am really shocked at how easy it has been (same with the not smoking, I have barely thought of them!).

And you know what? I feel GREAT!! I guess I never realised how crap all that drinking (and smoking) was really making me feel.
My journey so far...

I'm with you all, I love a drink, but I'm sure it does nothing for the waist.
During my preg and breastfeeding I didn't have anything and then slowly got back into the habit. The best thing i do that helps is keep an eye on the clock and see how late I can push it before I have a glass of wine. Easy to go for 1 at 5pm, but I've waited until 6.30. I still drink the same but I do try holding on longer just to break my habit. Which I will be doing next week. going dry will be hard for the 1st 2 days and then I should be ok.
