7 hours on my feet at work - how many calories??!!

Postby waterbaby » Wed Mar 03, 2010 2:40 pm

Hi all
I am wondering now I am working if I can include my 2 x 7 hours on my feet at work in my exercise tally and how many calories I might be burning??
Hopefull all that exhausting work is useful for something!! (other than my pay packet   )

I wouldn't include it. Still do your normal exercise and count anything else you do in the day as a bonus.

Hi!!

Like STBS suggested, I wouldn't include it.

I work 10 hour on my feet shifts and it sounds crazy, but the more exercise you do the easier it become! I am usually still bouncing off the walls at 8pm after work and the gym!

Best of luck xx

I agree with the other posts.

I wouldn't include it as "exercise", but you would definately burn a few extra calories walking around at work. Keep doing regular exercise, and consider any calories that you burn at work an added bonus :)

It should be enough to begin with, but then when you get closer to your goal weight you might need to up it a bit.

You don't want to burn out to quickly and get discouraged. Have your work days as your rest days. And as everyone has pointed out, you are still getting incidental exercise in.

If you really want to know how many calories you are burning, buy yourself a heart rate monitor, it will give you the most accurate amount.

I do over 11,000 steps every working day but i don't count that towards my excercise as my heart rate doesn't really get moving at all.
Changing my life, one ounce at a time.

I started this journey on Feb 2 2010 and though I would like to be a size 5 by June, I am prepared to accept that it might take a bit longer :D

Hi ladies,

I have been there and tried a lot of different exercise and diet types. I was doing 1-1.5 hrs at the gym 4 - 5 days a week, and it was high intensity work outs. On the off days I would still be doing a lot of walking and incidental exercise - minimum of 10,000 steps. According to websites I thought I needed to do that much to lose weight.

Then a lady from my gym who was a nutritionist put me on an eating plan and also gave me some exercise tips. I went from eating low carb and exercising 4 - 5 days a week, not losing any weight, to working out for 20 mins 3 days a week and being able to eat more of what I wanted. In 3 months I lost 10 kgs and have now kept it off for another 4 months.

The key is challenging your body and not letting it get used to the exercise you're doing. You need to do interval and change up your heart rate throughout the 20 mins to keep your body guessing. This not only burns calories during your workout, but fastens your metabolism for 24-48 hrs after your workout which is overall more beneficial.

I'm happy to share experiences with anyone looking to lose weight and not getting results *edited to remove spam*

Take care!
