What is more reliable?

Postby Carley » Thu Mar 04, 2010 2:40 pm

Your BMI or WHR? (waist hip ratio) for women it is under .80 and I am at .75 so I'm in the healthy range but my BMI is around 28 but over weight.

Which would you go by?
Goal for 2016:

I would go BMI, and waist circumference (supposed to be under 80cm).

Hip-waist ratio is more about your body shape, so say for example a woman was naturally an hour glass, and had a waist measurement of 100cm and a hip measurement of 140cm, she would come out with a HWR of .70 (which is apparently ideal) but by those measurements she is obviously overweight... if that makes any sense!

Body fat percentage is probably best. I've seen pics of you Carley and you are certainly not overweight! Your BMI doesnt take into account muscle mass.
