Anyone have one?

How do you rate it?

I am about to buy one and would like to know if it is worth it.

I was looking at buying one of these because they are easy on your joints, however several people told me they are a waste of money, and it doesn't take much to turn me off a product lol. I still kind of want one though! Let me know how you go.

I'd suggest getting a cheapy one off ebay first. If you stick with it and enjoy it, then you can splash out on a good one :)

Do not get a cheap one, they are horrible to use. I got mine at radio rentals and I love it, they are GREAT!!! Buy a good one with a good review!

You can try one out at a gym. You don't have to be a member to go for a one-off session. Most gyms charge you something like $15-$20 if you want to use their facilities for a one-off work out.

I was going to suggest this as well! Cross trainers can burn a lot more calories then treadmills, and they can be a lot of fun!

I don't have a gym near me unfortunately :(

The one I am looking at is $150... I will buy it and see how I go I guess.

I also read that the elliptical trainers burn twice the amount of calories that a treadmill does, plus it works the upper body as well.

I am in the minority because this is my most hated piece of equipment! My calorie burn (according to my HRM) is never as good as the treddie or a bike for the same amount of time. I always feel like I am dying on it and in return get very little gain. I know others who love it and some who have the same feelings towards them as I do, so I would definitely try one out before buying one.
My journey so far...

Try not to compare pieces of machines as better calorie burners than others. It's the intensity, time, technique and frequency which is more likely to determine that.

There is less impact through the joints on an elliptical but stressing the bones is also necessary in order to help prevent Osteoperosis.

As with any exercise tool, it should be used in conjuction with a variety of other tools to provide some safe, maintanable, non-monotonous health and fitness benefits!

I use both the treadmill and the elliptical trainer- the deciding difference for me is that when I put them both on interval training (the best for weight loss) I sweat more and feel more exhausted on the elliptical trainer. having said that I think it all depends on how you use it. I have found on the elliptical I really need to interval or gradually raise the work out level throughout the work out to get sweat and good fat burning. Good Luck. :)

I attribute 17kgs weight loss to my elliptical trainer, walking and calorie counting... it is never just one piece of equipment, it is a combination of things but I enjoyed jumping on it in front of the simpsons and doing 1/2hr every night. Mine sits in the garage now cos i love the gym but I got my money's worth. think it cost me $399 it wasnt a great one but it did the job for me - those first few kilos that i had to get off to save myself from shin splints etc before I could get into the high impact workouts :D

Hi everyone,

Now I am new and a bit of a dummy when comes to exercise machinery. I don't like exercising but have
started out walking cause eating healthy and exercise go together. The elliptical trainer sounds interesting
and I was wondering what is it exactly??? Is it one of those machines with like big bike pedals and your
moving your arms back and forwards with the machine??? Just wondering what it is exactly??? Next time
I am over in the shopping center I will take a look. Thanks:)
