Meal Replacement Shakes?

Postby BelleJournee » Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:16 pm

Anyone tried these? I've watched my mum sail through all sorts of dieting tricks without losing any weight, so I'm a bit skeptical.
But was in the chemist tonight wondering about shakes etc.
Are they all milk ones? (I can't stand milk).

I can't vouch for whether they work or not, although I read that plenty of people have had good results using them, but I believe it is recommended that you mix with water or skimmed milk.
I bought a couple of packs last week but have opened them yet. I want to use up the fresh food first.

I've just had my first meal replacement shake (Vanilla) tonight. I mixed it with cold water and it actually was quite pleasant. It said to mix it with 200ml of water which is basically a mugful when you add the powder. It did not have the same satisfaction of chewing real food, but I guess it fills the stomach. I think I might have to attack a stick of celery later!

They do taste good. I did them for a day but I realised that I am better suited to counting calories. I brought ones that I mixed with water. To me, they tasted a bit like a milkshake

Hi
I have also tried shakes, and no doubt they work, but to sustain a period of time on Shakes, not likely. I think i tried for a week.... didn't suit me, i would rather each real food, i can take my time chewing tasting flavours and different textures, more satisfying!
My boyfriend has done Tony Ferguson a number of times, and lost weight quite quickly....

Personal choice i guess

I've tried them in the past and they worked but couldnt stay on them long as I just wanted to chew something, I dont know if they really teach you about eating healthy and changing your lifestyle in order to lose weight

my dad has been on and off them for a while because he finds the taste is repetitive and bland after a small amount of time.

he also says there is a huge difference in taste, so if you dont like one you may like another!

My brother in law used them for a while. He had them for breakfast and lunch and ate a healthy main meal... although he might have been having the meal at lunch time. It seemed to work ok for him for a while but I don't know how long he stuck it out for.

I have tried a couple of the brands, and have found that Im allergic to them. They make me sick. My sister has used these as a helpful tool to her weight loss, and it has worked for her. I guess it just really depends on the person :)

I use them for breakfast. I am not a breakfast person, and never have been, which is a bad habit for me to break, but I needed to have something in the mornings. I find eating just turns me off, and the shake for me are a good way to get a meal without feeling like I am eating.
You really have to read the backs (nut. panel) as some can be a little high in Cal's. I mix mine with water, although you can use milk, but I find water works fine. I also keep one in the car now in my glove box if I get stuck out and about, all I have to do is mix it up in the bottle.

I think if you rely on them to loose weight the weight will fall off, but my sister-in-law did it that way and after the shakes she but all 26 kg plus more back on.

Lifestyle change should be the focus for perm. lose.

But like all weightloss methods - Each to their own :D

I, personally, am not a fan of the concept of turning everything into shakes. Why not eat some solid food? You can still lose weight that way.
