remedies for aliments common for the overweight people

Postby mummytotwo » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:37 pm

got any remedies for things common for overweight people? lets share our findings!

joint rotation - turn each joint in a mini circle 5-10 times before, during and after exercise to relieve early or mild arthritis as well as strained joints from carrying more weight then they can handle

I rotate all my joints from ankles to neck (including the hips and pelvis etc) and it helps loosen me up when i'm feeling stiff and "too heavy to exercise"

What have you found that helps?

fish oil!
I am being told by many people who have stiff joints that fish oil lubricates their joints, just one teaspoon a day apparently :)

I haven't tried it, but it sounds good!

Hehe, if you havent already tried it the oil is quite difficult to get down. Definitely start with the smaller bottle - if you can handle it, good, if not buy the tablets! (You can get tablets these days where you only take 1-3 per day, rather than 10 or so of the old-school ones).

heartburn!!
we have all experienced the annoying after affect from too much spicy tacos, too many carbs, too little food when extreme fasting/dieting, not exercising after eating all day - heartburn is awful!

One teaspoon of apple cider vinegar will clear it up! Tastes pretty gross, so take it in a glass of warm water to take the edge off.

be warned thought, apple cider vinegar does have the added effect of helping you release gas!! Both burps and bottom burps!!!

I have heard that apple cider is also used as a cheap alternative to probiotcs. I really must get back in to it! (Its quite alright taken in a big glass of water).

And yeah, re; fish oil... It does have a tropical kind of flavour, but still... it gives me the shivers just thinking about that taste and consistancy!

WARM water helps things get a move on and stops your digestive system from being sluggish!!

One cup of warm water (the heat of a cup of tea) 30mins after a meal :)

There is a varied response to the idea of the benefits of drinking warm/hot water in relation to digestion.

I personally find it beneficial, but that is my humble opinion based on my own experience.

I'm not contesting the water part. Drinking water is good. That is obvious. I'm contesting the "warm" water part. And the fact that you said cold drinks after exercising are bad.

Okay wait, sorry i think i read the cold drinks are bad somewhere else... (bit tired at the moment) but i still see no reasonable explanation as to why a "warm" cup of water is somehow better than drinking the same volume but cold.

I could understand some fancy because it's warm it encourages the body to release the excess heat which can lead to sweating which reduces your physical mass, but that hasn't lost any fat and you still need to drink back the water you just sweated off. So.... no. I think the calories burned to warm up the cold water would be roughly equivalent to the calories burned making the sweat to cool your body from the warm drink. So there would be zero net difference between a cold glass of water and a warm glass of water. (with both heat losses being miniscule compared to the benefits of just drinking water).

thanks for sharing your opinions yogibbear, the more we share our knowledge, experience and thoughts the better we can support eachother and shed the kilos.

I find the warm water beneficial in relation to my digestive system. :)

Sorry to revive an old thread but I think I can add a little something here.

Warm water does help more than cold water! Why?

Because we are mammals.

50-80% of the food we eat is used to create body heat, The warmer our core temperature, the less hungry we are. When our core temperature drops, our body tells us we need to eat (think about how your appettite changes in winter, or how hungry you get in the cold surf)

A warm glass of water in the morning puts heat straight into your body and helps curb your appetite from the start of the day. A glass of COLD water will do the opposite.

It's useful to know. People dieting should be careful not to get to chilly or those ole cravings will come for you!
