How Did You Gain Weight? - Help With Research Paper Needed

Postby narellesteg » Wed Mar 09, 2011 2:01 pm

Hi,

I’m a practicing Naturopath currently studying my Masters of Health Science specializing in women’s health and obesity management.

I am seeking submissions from women who have suffered from unexplained weight gain and would love to hear from you. All submissions are in complete confidence. If you are interested please contact me by email at [email protected] and I will provide further details.

I have a genuine interest in researching the causes of unexplained weight gain and infertility in women and hope that by posting this thread, I will be able to connect with women who have gained weight after trauma, child birth, medications, stress or diagnosed health conditions etc. My aim is to compile a research paper based on real women's experiences.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Narelle Stegehuis ND

Identical post in intro section, 3 additional identical posts removed.

15kg gained again (as at October 2010).

Hi butterfly_dawn,

Yes, I did post this is the introductory post and a selection of others as, this is not spamming as you are implying. As i have mentioned in my original introductory post, this is for genuine research purposes and not for marketing purposes. I am studying at the University Of New England In NSW and have been transparent, upfront and honest about my intentions. I thought it reasonable to post in a selection of posts since some members may only visit one post. Is this not correct? I am sorry if I have offended you in any way. This research paper is important to me and will benefit women and the community as a whole, so it would be a shame if I am written off as a spammer without any real justification from the start!

Kind regards,

We get plenty of spammers in here, and they are getting sneakier. As mods we have to be suspicious of people who are joining for reasons other than to seek support for their own weight loss journey. Using a gmail address raised my suspicions, though I am a cynic at heart.

I left the one in the intro thread and this one as these were the most likely to be seen (and where other posts about studies have been in the past) and on the assumption it was a legitimate study, the least likely to be seen as a spam attempt by the punters.

I'm presuming that you've got ethics approval for recruitment via web based forums?

And on this topic, I have put a suggestion in the suggestions box to have a purpose built thread for research and some guidelines about how people should present them (i.e. what info to give). Hopefully that will reduce problems on both sides.
