Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say you need to be mindful not to eat too few calories. I have been having that sort of problem for the last couple of months where I have been afraid to eat too much - believing that if I eat less calories, I will loose more weight but that hasn't been the case. I have been told the body thinks you are going into starvation mode and it actually holds onto fat to protect itself. It is important to eat your full compliment of calories if you can so that you're body feels like it is receiving the right amount of nutrition.

Yes you are right there Fluffy, the body does go into starvation mode with too few calories. It is a trap we all have or will fall into at some stage in our lives. "Diets" tell us we need to be strict and cut this and that (severely) out of our eating, and I think this is where we get the idea that we need to starve ourselves to lose weight. The program I follow has a great catch-cry....no starvation, no depravation..sometimes you walk away from cooking one of the recipes thinking...boy that was a lot, but it works!!

Sorry rambling now....just wanted to reinforce the no starving message!!

O gawd I could never starve myself! I am eating over the 1300 cals each day that I am supposed to have but I cant help it.....no will power. Actually I am more concerned with the fat intake I am having. Well over the 32g per day. Like some days I am double that!!! I must have been eating an awful lot of fat at times before I started to look into it. And that was without realising it. I always thought I reasonable with my eating, yes eating crap occassionally, but just my everyday choices have too much fat in them! Right must go and make cup cakes.......see there you go again with the fat!!! Actually they are not too bad and I am only likely to eat just 1 to see how it tastes!!! They are for the kids as I have a house full again.....my sisters lot this week.

Geez Ally I just shake my head every day when I put in my food and exercise for the day!!!! Every morning I think right I gotta lower the fat intake for the day, which btw, yesterday was 90g for the day!!! And I didnt think I was really that bad. But I did have a couple of scotch finger biscuits and of course all those little things just add up! And a home made cup cake which when searching calorie king for that one there was no home made cup cake on there so had to insert a brand one and that would have had more fat than my home made ones!!! I always put less butter in than the recipe says and it always tastes just as good! Gonna make this weight watches apple cake today or tomorrow. The kids seem to like it and it hardly has any butter in it at all. Plus it is quick and easy and no icing so they can eat it pretty quick after it comes out of the oven. Its nice as a dessert as well with custard. Anyway enough about food. It will make me start drooling yet again!

Yes, you are right about the body's starvation response. Here is an interesting and funny article by Skwigg about this issue.

Hi Rochelle, On the Calorie King Website you can look up all the ingredients in you cupcakes and work out the fat and calorie count per cake from there. It takes a bit of time, but then you can save it in your custom foods section of the software. Once you have worked it out it is then just a click of a button to add it to your food diary!!!

hehehehhehe it gets you like that sometimes...I am a real cheapskate and use the homebrand packet mix...they taste just as nice!! I pop them into patty pans when I can't be bothered to make from scratch!!! Actually they are not too bad fat and calorie wise anyway and I use low fat milk so they would be less than stated for that anyway!!! Will get to post that muesli bar recipe soon I hope!!!

I'm a bit confused about the calorie king thing (sorry if you've done this to death before).

I've just joined and today is the first day I'm using it.

My daily calorie intake should be 1270.

However, with my food plan today, I am eating 1414 worth of calories. Yet I still have a deficit of 587 calories! :?

Is this because of the exercise I plugged in? (731 calories worth) Should I be eating an extra 587 calories? If so, I just don't know how that's going to be possible - I am sooo not hungry!

Using the calculator on this site I worked out that I should be eating about 2000cals per day to lose weight. I'm starting to wonder if that may actually be too much... Might check calorie king.

I try to stick to 1300 to 1400 cals a day. I find that it averages itself out over the week. This is only bringing very slow weightloss, but that is what I want to do, as the slower it comes off, the more likely it is to stay off. :D

i use calorie king religiously and dont make up my excercise calories, thats just an added bonus! calorie king tells me to eat 1740 a day to lose weight but i find that too much and eat between 1300 - 1450 most days, with occasional days under and occasional over :)

Milkyway, I don't add in my exercise on ck otherwise it just confuses the issue.

Mind you the other day I had a mini hot crossed bun, and put it in incorrectly, and the bar down the bottom went red and reckoned I had eaten 15000 calories over my daily limit. I had actually only eaten 80 grams of bun, not 80 buns.
