Avoiding weight loss when eating out

Postby The Blimp! » Wed Dec 27, 2006 6:03 pm

Okay, I know all the usual ones like avoiding fatty, creamy and fried foods, but as someone whose work needs me to eat out a lot I am keen to hear any other ideas!

Thanks

Can you take food with you or do you have to buy it?

I used to buy my lunch all the time, I am now making it to take each day, heaps less junk and I am not tempted by all the goodies on offer.
Every day I am getting thinner and thinner.....

Sorry Blimp I didn't read all of your OP

Perhaps stick to the entrees as main meals?

nice tip lolly :)

also drink water in between mouthfuls. order a side salad, dont eat the chips if its served with chips (i always pass them to my 1 year old to nibble on) watch the dressings on the salads and sauces with the meals, watch the nibbles!!

Great tips! Especially the entree serve - I have done this a couple of times and it is always plenty of food.

Maybe I need to get a different job!

If the meal comes with chips, just ask for salad or veggies instead of the chips.

Salads are always good, especially now with the warmer weather. Order it with the dressing on the side, then you can pour it on yourself and decide how much you want.

Eating slowly is good too. Using your knife and fork properly (ie with the prongs of the fork facing downwards, not using it as a shovel lol) takes way longer to get the food onto the fork! And make heaps of conversation... hard to eat and talk at the same time :D

I always leave food on my plate when I'm eating out. Mainly so I don't look like a pig for cleaning my plate... but also means you eat a bit less. How many times have I had a waitress comment on how much I have eaten when they take away an empty plate  So now I leave a bit so they can't say anything...

try anything grilled. this could be chicken, fish, or steak. if you choose steak, it's best to choose gravy if you want a sauce with it because all the others are made mainly with cream.

it is also probably better to get salad rather than veg because the veg will usually be sitting in butter, or the potatoes in cream, and may be smothered in full fat cheese.

as far as i know, tomato based sauces for pasta are usually pretty good, don't go for the creamy sauce EVER, unless it is made with yoghurt but in a restaurant that is VERY rare.

all the other tips above are fantastic aswell

Just make sure that if you order fruit salad it is a fresh fruit salad and not crap out of a can!!! (personal experience speaks loud and clear!! LOL)

That is so rude for a waitress to pass comment like that Sarah!! Gosh maybe you should come back with, " at least it keeps you in a job". I cannot get over the rudeness of today's society!! Grrr it gives me the irrites!!!! :x Damn now I am in the naughty corner! At least none of us have been sent there for a while!! LOL :P

Personally for me, a pair of handcuffs work well when dining out.....

On the other hand, my hubby likes to go to this particular smorgasboard on a Sunday night, the food aint bad either but stopping myself from over indullging is hell - he will have to just eat alone for a while cause handcuffs in public are a bit of a no-no
