Drinks to help you lose weight faster

Postby CrimsonThunder » Wed Jan 03, 2007 6:07 am

This is a rushed post so it might not make any sense. I was just wondering if drinks like medimucial (dont know the correct spelling) makes it so you lose weight faster? Because it speeds up your digestive system I presume, therefore making your food get broke down faster.

My sister new of a lady who lost some weight by drinking metamucil each day. But I have gone through stages of drinking it regularly and havent noticed a difference in weight loss. I dont know that it really works all that well. I'd prefer to eat half a dozen prunes each day. Does the same thing and tastes better. I think with the metamucil you drink an extra few glasses of water, which I would assume does the trick a bit as well. One day I mixed it up and the phone rang. When I came back to it 5 mins or so later it was this thick gluggy disgusting mess!!! I thought how grose. Thats what it turns into in your guts! Hence I havent drunk it very often since then....hahaha!!!

It was really grose Ally. At least the prunes don't do that to you! I had to try to get it down the sink after that as well. I was thinking holy moly it might clog up the sink pipe.......hahaha!!!! Or give it the $hits........hahaha!!!

ROFLMAO!!!! Oh that is soooo funny!!!! I can imagine the call to the plumber..."I think she's blocked mate...yeah but she's gunna blow any second now!!"

I agree though it makes you wonder what it does to your insides!!! If you look at the package it tells you to drink a lot of water!! That would be why, so it doesn't set like cement sludge in your belly and cause worse problems!!! OUCH  :?

Metamucil helps with fibre intake. I use it when I feel hungry but I already had my meal. It's like the bulk of the food but without the calories, gives you the feeling that you just had a big meal. I don't think it helps to lose weight, but it's pretty good to cut the hunger and it's good for constipation as well  .

Sadly I think there is no drink that will help you lose weight faster apart from water and lots of it

I agree.. water is the best :D

If you wanna see a drink set like cement, try psyllium husks (in the heath food section in the supermarket) in water or juice. It turns into like a jelly if you let it sit for a long time. Now, drink/eat that and there's no way you will want to eat anything for a while... speaking from experience here

The fibre would help with weight loss because you would be more regular and therefore weigh less. And I guess filling you up so you don't eat as much :)

I used to take a supplement called Fit, which was a liquid/gel and had appetite suppresant qualities, amongst others. It worked, but then the hunger came back twice as much  I eat whether I'm hungry or not, so appetite suppresants are no good for me :(

I'm like that too Sarah. I eat because I want to eat, not because of being hungry. And yes the metamucil will fill you up so you won't eat as much, but that is the only way it will help you to lose weight. Extra fibre in your diet is never a bad thing anyway. I'll still just stick with my prunes tho!

You can get too much fibre in your diet though! So if you're someone who gets enough fibre from the food they eat, don't go too overboard with the Metamucil!

Hi Tom

I agree with zeedeveelgirl...... carefull with the Metamucil..... too much fibre can bring on bowel problems. If you are low on fibre in your daily diet, then by all means supplement it, but don`t use it as a slimming aid or you will end up with more trouble than you bargained for. :|

Well said Chinta :) Essentially, taking metamucil too much is like taking laxatives!!

Hi Everyone,

Metamucil is a fibre supplement. Fibre is important because it is a bulking agent and it reduces transit time of food sitting in your intestines. A dose of metamucil is only about 3-4g of fibre. The recommended daily intake for disease prevention is 20-30g.

I don't believe taking metamucil will significantly aid weightloss. If you are looking for a weightloss drink I would go for a protein shake (preferably one which has whey protein in it) and use it as a meal replacement. Protein particularly whey protein) is proven to make you feel fuller and decrease your appetite.

I often have a protein shake for breakfast and i'm not hungry most days until 1-2pm.

Good luck :-)

Hehe I was thinking protein shakes too :D (yum!) I think whey protein can also help with sugar craving as well...
