One of my lecturers for my massage course told me that you can tell if someone has oedema (buildup of fluid) by pressing into the skin with your thumb/finger and if it leaves an indent when you take your thumb/finger away, you have fluid buildup!

That sounds interesting Emma.. will have to give it a try!

I just know when my pants start getting tight, and they make horrible red marks around my waist and inner thighs - yuck! Seems to get worse as the day goes on :(

Yeah apparently you do it just above your ankle on the inside of your leg!
I know when I have fluid because my belly swells :( :( Tis horrible!!

Wow, you should see my hubby's legs he has loads of fluid in them and the indent stays there for ages. It's due to medication that he has to take, he works on the fluid side with the doc but if they lower the meds the blood pressure goes up. Poor chooky!

No mate I didn't have it. Up here when you are pregnant for the first time (well any time actually) you go up and meet with the midwife who explains the why's and wherefore's of pregnancy and one of them was to just give you a run down of things to look out for. That was one of them, but I have always remembered it and I have for years had fun squeezing my puffy ankles around TTOTM!! I find that apart from drinking heaps of water a cold washer placed on the ankles help when they get to the burning stage!!
