Swollen feet.

Postby Shelli » Sun Feb 18, 2007 9:24 pm

I was just wondering how many more of you have this problem?

I know I weigh a lot more than a lot of people here, but this Summer has just been the worst.

First time I noticed was on a really hot day last Summer, but it was only one day and then they were fine.

This year though, it seems to be constant, so much so that they swell up from behind my toes (all across the top) and my ankle gets so puffed that I can hardly walk.

I remember similar when I was pregnant, but I am ashamed to say that I weigh more now than when I was 9 months pregnant.

I hope that my weight loss and cooler days will help to solve this problem and there will BE no problem next Summer.

I was just reading the 'foot spa' topic and saw that somebody else mentioned swollen feet in the heat, so I thought I would ask.

Shelli mine are all puffy tonight too. I think it is because I have had them dangling lots - we went to the movies today and my feet don't reach the floor properly and they swell up from that .............................. and you can all stop laughing at my dangling feet now

You may be retaining fluid too so have that checked out.
Every day I am getting thinner and thinner.....

Hi Lolly,

I'm not laughing.

I'm NOT! LOL!

But, yes, I do retain fluid, and do have tablets for it but I don't like to take them too often. I do take one if it gets really bad, sometimes they help, sometimes not much. I think it's just the constant heat (and the excess weight!)

It's going to be cooler tomorrow! YAY!

*stares at treadmill*

I WANT to start walking... you guys have really motivated me!
:D

DAMN FEET!

Hi Shelli how much water do you drink?? I know that if I don't drink enough water I will retain fluid. I drink around 3-4 litres per day!! I hope you find a solution soon as there is nothing worse than swollen ankles and feet!! I would get checked by your doctor to make sure everything is ok medically and then take it from there, but if it has been really hot that is possibly why you are swelling...

Thanks Ally,

They do feel a bit better today (and the weather is a lot cooler) so I'm hoping that's all it is.

I drink at LEAST 3 x 800ml bottles of water a day. If find it easy in Summer, not sure how I'll go in Winter though. I do tend to make more soups and drink coffee when it's cold so that might keep the water intake up a little.

no worries Shelli, maybe try and drink a little more when the it gets really high in temp?? Even if you added a bit of lemon or lime juice or something....I have also heard people do this in winter with warm water to keep their water intake up...I have never tried it myself as I am a water baby!! However it may help to get more water in your system through winter ( I guess it makes sense, we drink cold water in summer, so why not warm water in winter??)

Hmmm... don't think I like the sound of warm water to drink.

For now, I have cut out coffee and all soft drinks all together and am just on water. Will see how it goes in the months to come.

Actually that reminded me, I recently read this article on cayenne pepper. I was on a Vogel diet several years back and every morning I had to have a big glass of water with cayenne, ginger and lemon juice. It was horrid, but it's interesting to read about it now.

This is the link, if anybody is interested:

The one I was on, had that drink I mentioned upon waking, then fruit for breakfast. The rest was quite healthy... wholemeal stuff, lean meats, eggs, lots of fish, fruit and veg.

I've now decided, after all this time, the only way it's going to work is that it HAS to be a lifestyle change. The harder the diet is to stick to, the more likely you are to fail.

Everything in moderation, and if you fall off track, get back on... (yes, I'm still motivated! LOL!)

yes that is true Shelli, a healthy diet and exercise is the only sustainable way to lose weight and keep it off!! Fad's just don't work....well they do for a bit and then you are left scratching your head as to why the weight has crept back on!!!

A friend of mine was telling me tonight (during the BL she rang!! :x ) about this woman who lives across the road from her went on this diet that costs $670 up front for them to give you a blood test to tell you what foods she has to eat to lose weight and get her metabolism started....she said she has lost a massive amount of weight and her body is not all flabby, but the catch is she can't exercise with it as her body will then attack the muscles!! I nearly spat the dummy.....I said that just sounds terrible that she can't exercise.......she said that apparently the body attacks the fat and if she exercises it will attack the muscles....I think it is ridiculous!! sure lose weight quick, but at what cost to your body!!!

WOW! That sounds kinda weird. I know Sureslim costs a lot, AND says you don't need to exercise, AND gives the blood tests, but when I went to their meeting (many years ago), I was told that if you exercise you just get to eat more.

Not exercising at all doesn't help you to get into a new routine. Sure it may help in the short term, but what after that? Go back to eating what you were without ever getting fitter???

Makes no sense! :?

yep that is my thoughts exactly!!!! I couldn't get my head around it at all and I think this poor women will end up back where she started from....my friend said she was going to find out more and tell me (strictly from a nosey point of view!) so I will tell all when I find out more!!

Hahaha! Yes, be nosey! I would be curious to know which diet and how much she has lost over how long too.

I guess if you do spend that amount of money you 'may' be more determined to make it work... still, the NO EXERCISE rule just sounds strange???

Regardless, I do wish all her the best of lucK!! Maybe she found something that DID work for her.... :)
