% water weight

Postby milkyway » Tue Feb 27, 2007 11:22 pm

While we're on the topic of water this week - does anyone know what % of water weight you should be? My scales weigh first in kg, followed by % water and then % body fat. I have no idea what I should be.

Any ideas :?:

I READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL TO MY SCALES IT SAYS FOR THE BODY WATER (HYDRATION) PERCENTAGE (%):
FEMALE:
AGE 15-30 *LOW- =<53 *NORMAL(0) = 53-67 *HIGH(+) >67
AGE 30-60 *LOW- =<47 *NORMAL(0) = 47-61 *HIGH(+) >61
AGE 60-80 *LOW- =<42 *NORMAL(0) = 42-56*HIGH(+) >56

MALE:
AGE 15-30 *LOW- =<47 *NORMAL(0) = 47-57 *HIGH(+) >57
AGE 30-60 *LOW- =<42 *NORMAL(0) = 42-52 *HIGH(+) >52
AGE 30-60 *LOW- =<37 *NORMAL(0) = 37-47*HIGH(+) >47

I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE BODY FAT PERCENTAGE DETAILS ASWELL LET ME KNOW

Hmmm, this has me intruigued.
I am going to have to look in to some decent scales. Not that my current scales aren't decent, but they only measure weight.
It would be nice knowing, water and fat percentages too.

Milkyway, what brand are your scales? and would you happen to know what sort of price range I would be looking at?
I know I currently need scales that can weight atleast 150 kg of weight, since that is where I am at at the moment. :)
When I am thin, fat will be in!

Thanks so much, Chelle. That's exactly what I wanted. A google search netted zero relevant results. Good to know I'm in the normal range.

Hi Katt,

My scales are by Propert (the 3015 model).I got them from Harris Scarfe for about $30 -- they were reduced from around $80. They go up to 150kg. They're OK, I guess --- they will be much better when they tell me what I want to hear ;)

I figured as much but as long as I only use the one set of scales, I can monitor any changes from the one source.

I have some of the Tanita scales that do the body fat but not water %. I do find though the body fat % differs depending on how hydrated you are. This means weighing first thing in the morning will give a higher body fat % reading as you are dehydrated from not drinking through the night. I weight myself in the mornings but I do my body fat readings when I get home as then I have been hydrated through the day. The little booklet I got with them mentions this too.

I'm learning a fair bit reading what other people have post around here...
I'm not too concerned about monitoring my body fat and water percentages until I get my weight down a bit more first. :)
