When does it start coming off?

Postby aramat1980 » Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:54 am

Hi, I've been not eating less (except for a bowl of ice cream nearly every night) and exercising 4x week for 35minutes (says on the machines that I'm burning around 345 calories approximately) so why isn't anything coming off? I read that you have a BMR which is 1705 for me so to lose weight I should eat at least 500less calories a day and then if I exercise it should come off shouldn't it? I have been doing this since 22/02.
any ideas? :? :?:

Tamara are you weighing everything? sometimes that makes a difference. I know that when I started I wasn't weighing my food, and my portion sizes were enough to sometimes stop or slow right down my weightloss. When I started with calorie king I started weighing all my food, and was surprised how much extra I was eating without realising.

I'm not sure why it's not working?! How much do you weigh and how tall are you? What time at night do you have the ice cream?

Typical day would be:
Breakfast
Banana, 2tbs natural yoghurt and 125ml milk (whole - can't stand skim and don't think it makes too much difference but then I am probably wrong) all pureed together as a smoothie;
Lunch
Salad with SOME dressing and either smoked salmon or some other cold meat - about 50g
Piece of Fruit after going to gym (walk to gym 5mins; airwalkerthingy (crosstrainer?) 15mins; jog (7.5km) 10mins; walk back from gym 5mins)
Dinner
Meat and veg or Spaghetti or something healthy - got to have the kids eat the right stuff. Only medium bowlful.
Ice Cream
Usually three or four tablespoons
But when I add up calorie content I don't even get near 1500 most days and then I'm exercising on top of that.???

No idea about how much runner weigh, but I know if Im wearing shoes and heavy clothes when I weigh in, I will be about 1.5-2kgs heavier.
Looking at your food diary, everything looks ok, other than the full fat milk, unfortunately there IS a big difference between full and skim milk, fat and sat. fat wise and also the ice cream, 4 tbls sounds like a lot? Are they small tablespoons or are they heaped? If they are heaped then that is probably too much. Also, you didnt mention if you are drinking any water. You should aim to drink 2 ltrs of water each day, for the body to function properly, more if you have caffienated drinks or if you are active. I know if I dont drink my water, I will generally stay the same when I weigh in. Do you keep an eye on salt (sodium) intake? Too much salt can cause fluid retention - weight gain, so that may also be the prob. Do you vary your exercise? Maybe try something different (aerobics, dancing, swimming etc) to shake up the body a bit? Also resistance/weight training is as important as cardio (your running etc) is, so maybe try some handweights or weights at the gym? Lol what a mouthful that was!! :P I hope you find what your prob is as I know it can be very frustrating!

Every 'body' is different so Im not sure. I do know that since I stopped taking the pill the weight has come off. I was getting frustrated like you after a yr of gym 3 times a week and watching food I was getting fatter. I stopped taking the pill and wola the weight has started coming off. Are you on any meds that could be doing it?

Thanks guys,
I do drink nearly 2L per day. I drink 1L whilst doing my cardio. And yeah, I think my problem is my ice cream damnit! I really have to just have it once a week instead of once a day!
I did 10mins on crosstrainer today and then did weights. Am going to do cardio Mon and Wed and 10mins cardio and weights on Tues and Thurs. Can't get to Base Gym on the other days.

Hiya with the milk thing....I don't drink skim milk either mate, it reminds me of dirty dish water!! However have you tried a low fat milk such as Trim.....I successfully lost 30kg previously by using the low fat milk. Just a thought

I've always used Light Start, never really thought about it that much, but have always had it on my breakfast.

Yeah there is nothing to say that you can't have full cream milk and not lose weight....it all depends on the quantity....1 cup per day is not going to put you over the limit. I often have a small glass of full cream milk (when I run out of the light one) and I still lose weight...I guess if I was drinking gallons of it, then it would be a problem....hahahhahaa Kate at watering down your milk at home :P

I use skim, and have for years. I still don't love it on cereal, lucky I am not really a cereal girl. It is great in smoothies though, and when you use it in an eggflip (one of my faves) it gets really frothy.
