Binge eating

Postby Vegetable » Tue Mar 27, 2007 10:12 am

Ok, so as many of you know, I am a binge eater. (today I have actually made the decision to join overeaters annonymous, which I feel really proud of :D) I found this article and it was really interesting, about binge eating -

Well done on your decision Amy! I have been thinking about that myself, but I'm still mucking around with making the decision to go. I've listened to the 12 steps/12 traditions CD though (I'm too lazy to read lol!).

Hope it goes really well! Keep us updated :D

You should be very proud of your decision Amy. It is a big step in not only dealing with your problem, but you becoming the person that you really want to be. Good luck with it, let us all know how you go.

Thanks so much everyone :D I do feel really good about this decision. I need to overcome this if I am ever going to get to my goal weight, but, more importantly I need to overcome this so that food will no longer control me.

Good on you Amy - I've been thinking about this too, so I'd be really grateful for any reports on what it's like.

I went to a OA meeting once a few months back.

I'm not sure if I just wasn't ready or what but I didn't go back.

It works on the same principles as AA, but the thing that got me was that even the skinny people who had seemingly overcome their issues were still saying, "hi my name is .............. and I'm a compulsive overeater." That made me feel like I would never be rid of the title and I just couldn't go back.

A lot of the stories people told were easy to relate to, but it's a strange way to deal with it I think.

I'm still a skeptic, but good luck, I hope it suits you.

I think you definitely need to experience it for yourself before you make a decision. It's a big step to attend one of these meeting I think. So good on you for trying it Vegetable.

I am a big binge eater as well

I am hoping sure slim program that i am starting on in a couple of week will kick it to the curb because it helps normalise your hormone levels and sugar levels so you dont feel the need to binge

the thing that really frustrates me is that binging is sort of accepted in society

like if i wanted to binge i know a lot of my friends who would help me do it and i just think its a bit disgusting and a bit of a worry that if you go to a shop and order a large slice of chocolate cake heated with cream and chocolate sauce and a hot chocolate with marshmellows and then order some cake to take home or something like that its completely acceptable, if you eat a block of chocolate and eat a packet of tim tams its completely acceptable... well really its quite wrong and if that is something you find yourself doing often then it is quite a problem
