I just came across a method for working out one's 'ideal body weight' based on your height and wrist measurement to determine your frame size.
If you are less than 5'2", (157cm)
small frame : wrist is less than 5.5" (14cm)
medium: 5.5-5.75" (14-14.6cm)
Large: over 5.75" (14.6cm+)
If you are between 5'2" - 5'5" (157cm-165cm)
small frame : wrist is less than 6" (15cm)
medium: 6-6.25" (15-15.9cm)
Large: over 6.25" (15.9cm+)
If you are more than 5'5", (165cm)
small frame : wrist is less than 6.5" (16.5cm)
medium: 6.5-7.5" (16.5-19cm)
Large: over 7.5" (19cm+)
Once you have worked out your frame size your ideal weight is caculated as thus:
100lbs for first feet of height, then add 5 lbs per inch of height.
If your frame is small deduct 10%, and if large add 10%
I am 5'6" and my wrist measurement is 5.75", which means I apparently have a 'small' frame
So my calculated ideal weight is 117lbs or 53kilos!
Does anyone else know of any other methods?
I'm curious to know beacuse the BMI is pretty wide gauge. Between my lowest and highest for my BMI there is a 15 kg difference.
