weights for toning

Postby sunshine » Sun Nov 11, 2007 10:59 pm

Does weights actually tone you if you do lots of repetitions rather than lift heavy weights? I want to do this in conjunction with my cardio, so when I lose the weight I will find my muscles!!!

In my experience, yep weights will definatly tone you... weights are awesome, I love them, personally, they will also help lose weight so including them into your training will benefit, with weight and body tone.

Also, doing weights helps you lose fat, as it keeps your metabolism humming along at a faster rate :D

I agree with everything that has been said!

I do both... Weights and cardio! And I think that the weights are the reason I continue to lose so many cm!

you can lift heavy ones with less reps (still gotta do 12-15 tho) too... that way you really develop ur muscles. Well that's what my PT told me.. rip them apart haha

In total agreeance... Weights are an important and essentail part of overall fitness! Doing high repititions (say 20 reps, 3 times) of a light weight is great for toning (lean muscle). In saying that you would have to do weights for hours a day for years to "Bulk up" on low reps of a heavy weight anyway (most of us are not at risk of this). With the extra muscle mass you metabolism will be boosted and you will burn more fat all day long. Don't forget tone is a combination of muscle gain AND fat loss (even if you are only 70kgs)!!!
Weight training is also very important to promote bone mineral density (stong bones)!
Have fun!!!
