If you remember that muscle burns more calories than fat (if I remember right its 10x as much). Then your goal shouldn't just be to burn calories but to gain more lean muscle so you can burn more effectively. The only way to gain more lean muscle is to do resistance training eg. weights.

It would depend on what u want to achieve, to be fit and healthy or toned and muscular. Although both exercises would be good, i tend to head more into weights and lazy about fitness.
