I go to the BodyWorkShop and it's something like $320 a year - and that's unlimited...classes, free weights, cardio, pool.

It's not the funkiest gym (ie there are no coffee shops!) but that's just how I like it. It's one of those old-school gyms where you're actually allowed to sweat!!

I go to an independent gym in Adelaide called Viva. It costs me $19.95 a week and that includes a PT Session once a month and all classes.

2006-7 I had a year with Broadway gym (Sydney) for $360. When it was time to rejoin they said it was now $550, and that was the super ultra discount rate (retail bull plop). It's a pokey little gym without a *heap* of resources (they don't even have spin bikes!!), so I said no thanks.

In December I joined UNSW gym, which was $310 for 6 months of classes and weight/cardio for a student. They also have a pool, but I don't like swimming. They have way more classes (including RPM!) than Broadway did, and it's definitely a more professional environment.

I have no idea where I will go after the 6 months is up! It's entirely dependent on where my partner and I have moved to. I'll be working in Wynyard, right near the bridge, but I think I'd prefer a gym near home so it's accessible on the weekends.

Hello,

I was a member of Fernwood (Narre Warren VIC) for a year and even though at the beginning it was great, I found it getting really busy. Every couple of months they would advertise NO JOINING FEE and all these new people would sign up...which is not necessarily a bad thing in the financing and business perspective, but when you're given a 10min limit on cardio during peak times, its a pain in the proverbial. It takes me 10 min to warm up...it's not what I'd like to refer to as a workout.

Anyway, I was paying 39.95 per F/T, therefore around $80.00 per month. Having seen some of the prices of other gyms, I do feel that it's rather expensive.

I'm checking out the Contours today (free trial) which is around $13.60 per week.

Body Rock - $160/3months

Unlimited everything except classes which are a few dollars extra, or included in your membership if you pay $190/3months, but I never do classes so I didnt worry about it.

I go to EFM (Executive Fitness Management) at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide.
It is $88 dollars a months.
Sounds expensive but it is well worth it.
There is no joining fee and no cancellation fee. And you are only paying month by month, no yearly contracts. It's a small gym which is also like a small community. The trainers know each member by name and know their fitness levels, and will push you as far as they know they can. There is always a trainer there to help you, unlike other gyms. Basically its a step between a normal gym and a personal trainer.

Gordz if I had room (and a way of transporting it to the middle of the desert cheaply) I would buy a home gym too! I live in a mining town and there is only one gym. It costs me $54 per month, with no classes, no pool access, and cranky staff members. Really encouraging! :P It's hard to stay motivated, but a couple of good friends and I go together and try to out-train each other. We make it fun! :D
