Links to Fake Websites And How to Protect Yourself

Postby CrimsonThunder » Fri Jan 26, 2007 12:08 am

Watch out for links to fake websites. Which are usually naughty, don't be tempted! They'll install spyware on your computer and other nasty stuff that you do not want!

What I recommend:

- Use FireFox, it is said to be the safest browser available (but this may not be true as its getting alot more popular now)

- Use a good AntiVirus software. I use AVG Free. (scroll down till you see "Windows" or whatever operating system you use) Its free and does a great job. Make sure you update it regularly too!

- Use a spyware protection program. I recommend Spyware Doctor (It should automatically ask you if you want to download but if it doesnt it says "click here") But I dont think its free (you can still use it though its just not all available to you). That may have changed since I last updated.

I agree with Tom, preferrably don't click on them at all. I delete these nasty posts as soon as I see them so one of the mods or Scott our trusty Admin will clean them up soon enough.

LOL I have tried on two occasions but got no response. Always up for a bit of argy bargy with waste of space types. A lot of times it is the same person I think registering under different names. A few times I have been deleting them up as quick as they are posting and they seem to get the message and clear off.

Really? I wondered if there was some sort of program but what a total waste of time to even create one. Obviously I am mising some important marketing ploy here.

Oh well I was trying to figure the point of making one at all. Is it just for malicious purposes?

Yeah and for profit I'd say. Every time someone clicks the link they'd make money. (I suppose)

Just a suggestion.. phpBB allows you to ban by recognisable IP addys...
It wouldn't stop them all, but would stop repeat offenders.

Also, is there a graphic spamguard requirement activated for the forum signup? I can't remember..
.. That would protect against bots signing up and at the very least make it a pain in the a$$ for them.

Yeah I'd assume it's a program that runs that automatically creates a user and puts these posts in, I noticed that it's always in the Weight Loss talk section, so must be automatic.
