I hate spam

Postby Blobber » Sat Dec 08, 2007 3:00 pm

Maby not the right forum for this topic, but I had to express my disgust at SPAM.

I opened my mail box today and there were around 14 spam emails there. Because I run a web site and I get messages from work I have to wade through some of these messages to be sure that I do not miss something important.

I'm sick and tired of getting spam. who are these people! How come they are allowed to waste my time! Who is stupid enough to actually give money to anyone that is a spammer!!!!!!

Couldn't agree with you more Blobber. I just hate it  Someone must give them money because they keep sending it. It makes you feel like they think you are an idiot.

I agree, stupid spam. I opened up an email box that I hadn't used in ages and there were 2096 SPAM messages.

In my other email box (I only use it for job applications, uni related things etc) i get tons of spam too. All of it is about enlarging my penis aswell, and I'm pretty sure I don't have one of those.

There should be an anti spamming register like there is a telemarketing one, speaking of whice, now that the register has come in I keep getting telemarketer calls on my mobile and my number isn't even listed.

Totally agree haylez :!: I keep getting telemarketing calls on my mobile as well - and most of them are off shore calls. Don't get me wrong I don't not like telemarketers (my sister is one) I just really hate the calls that A. Aren't going to actually do something for me like save me some money or B. come from overseas (what about Australian jobs)

I will get off my high horse now. BTW Lolly gave me a great tip for dealing with telemarketers, ask them for their number so that you can call them back. If they give you the number you are on a winner - if they don't - highly likely they are from overseas.

You should download a free programme called Spamfighter.

(google it - because I'm not sure if I can put links here)

I've been using Spamfighter for over a year - and it's excellent.

I too have a website (two actually)... and I can't tell you how much spam I get every day. I am with optus and their spam filter report says that 60+ % of my emails are spam and I don't get those. But then... I get over 100 spam emails a day that get through Optus!

Thankfully spamfighter catches 99% of those spam.

It puts a toolbar across your email server (ie: outlook, express)... and creates a folder where all the spam goes to. So you can have a quick look through all the spam emails before you delete them. And if any spam emails slip through - you press "block" and the email gets sent to the spam folder - and any future ones received by that sender go straight there.

I don't think this programme would work if you are using a web based email host - like hotmail or yahoo. You would need to use Outlook, outlook express or independant email servers. (You can always have your hotmail emails sent to outlook).

I hate spam... and I can't work out why they bother? Does anyone buy viagra from some dodgy email that they received??

Yes, I hate it too! With a passion

I have an online business, so in my business email I get a fair bit, but I have an excellent spam filter so I very rarely (if ever) get any spam mail in my inbox.

I can't believe the amount of spammers that post dirty ads on the forum too! Thankfully we have an excellent team of mods here, so they're always gone quick smart, great work mods :D
