When do you retain water?

I read lots about retaining water on here and I was just wondering what would cause your body to retain water.

I drink 3ltrs (sometimes more) everyday...yes, i'm on the loo a lot :lol:

So what conditions would your body be under to retain water?

A high intake of salt can cause you to retain water.

Some can notice it in their ankles, 'puffy ankles'.

I have also experienced water retention in the later stages of pregnancy.

salt / soduim causes water retention.. some medications can do this too.

I retain water the week before TTOTM. Really hot weather can cause you to retain water as well.

I'm finding the heat to be really bad for retaining fluids as well. By the end of the day I can feel the skin around my ankles and calves is so tight and stretched, and my shoes are so tight I can hardly walk... :shock:

Sitting down for long periods and not moving around doesn't help much either I am sure.

I'm probably the only one who experiences this, but an OD on carbs and sugars. Cos your body needs water to process the carbs into energy, so it needs to hang on to the water you drink.
