Can you save calories??

Postby ali76 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 12:44 pm

Hi all!

Just wondering...I'm really good during the week and always eat under my allocated calories (as per the Calorie King as suggested by the forum!).

Can you save calories for the weekend if you have a little splurge...like I did with BBQ sausages and alcohol?! :?

I know you can save points on WW but didn't know if it was the same principle??

Thanks! :P
SW - 75.9

I would say that you can, I follow WW and as you said you can save points on that program. I wouldn't see the problem in doing the same with calories!

As long as your overall calories for the week are OK it should be fine.

I am on a 5 day on 2 days off diet, i cut back my calories A LOT during the week, and then eat close to maintenance on the weekends. This actually helped break my plateau!
Starting Weight: 62kg Current Weight: 55.0kg Goal Weight: 54kg

Goal Reached 22 February 2008, Must get down to 54kg again!

I'd say you can within reason. Obviously you don't want to drop to starvation levels during the week so you can have a massive binge on the weekend. That would totally stuff your metabolism up and ensure your body clings to any fat you consume on the weekend far more than normal.

Doesn't WW have a rule about how many points you can save per day? It's been a while since I've done it, but I think you can only save a couple of points per day (current Weight Watchers please feel free to correct me!)

You don't want to go less than 1200 calories per day. It's probably best not to cut more than 50 extra calories daily off your existing weight-loss diet (provided it's above 1250 calories per day of course). Perhaps a better solution would be to figure out how much extra exercise you'll need to do during the week to burn those excess weekend calories off.

There are others here who know way more than me about nutrition. Hopefully one of them will have a more definitive answer for you!

yep with WW you can only save a max of 4 points per day and they say you shouldn't save more than 12 (I think)

Thanks for that Nikki! It's been so long I couldn't remember. I recall saving all my points for booze at the weekends at the time... but after that it gets a bit (understandably) hazy....
