I do not think it is wise for an 8 year old to start any diet without specialist advice. What suits adults does NOT suit growing children. :(

Ask your GP for a referral to a Bariatric Specialist who specialises in childhood obesity. There are many reasons for being overweight and a Bariatric Specialist can investigate them all.

If you can't get a referral to a childhood Bariatric Specialist, contact your local hospital for information. A child needs a well organized and managed plan which uses the expertise and support of a GP, endocrinologist, dietician, exercise physiologist, and child psychologist. The whole family should be involved and follow any plan which is suggested.

I commend you on wanting to do something now (before the problem becomes even bigger). :lol:

I was a plump child from around 8 or 9 and my self-esteem, performance in school, social development, relationships with boys, and happiness in adult life has been adversely affected. I wish my parents/doctors had not said it was "just puppy fat, and she will grow out of it". :x :cry:

Please do treat this seriously and persist until you get good quality on-going support for your whole family.

Hi all, Just found this forum today although I have been following the JG method since mid January. I have a lot of weight to lose & have done the yo yo thing for years so I was a bit sceptical but we live in hope :roll: :wink:
I must say I've found it great. I've been listening to the CD every night & started with the daily probiotic, multivitamin & high strength fish oil for my omega 3 & lots of fruit & veg & keeping the water up but otherwise eating what I wanted.

About 3 weeks in I added the digestive enzyme with meals & whey powder & this gave me a real kick along. Not as much happening on the excersise front but hoping to improve that.

The biggest difference I've found is that I feel full & satisfied after a reasonable amout of food. This is a very novel experience for me - because usually I'm ALWAYS hungry. I feel wonderful. My energy which was very depleted has returned & I feel very lively & positive. I feel very with it mentally too, very bright & motivated.

Although I'm eating whatever I feel like, I have to say that I'm much more attracted to healthy food (havn't quite managed organic yet). And when it comes to things like chocolate, fish & chips etc I dont search them out & am satisfied with a small amount whereas usually I wouldnt be able to stop.

I'm so delighted with all of this that its almost just an added extra that I've lost 5 kilos. So I not only give it the thumbs up - I'm also really enjoying it!

Finally got my book after a couple of weeks delay - and have just finished reading it - listened to the CD last night and fell asleep while doing so, but that is okay as you still take it all in. Felt really good this morning and actually have "a song in my heart" which is good for me as it hasn't been there for ages! Even feel the need to go walking!! Will act on that later today.

I am taking one day at a time really trying to focus on the techniques and I need to find a picture of the 'real me' - I have also decided not to weigh myself, I will know when I am losing weight - my clothes will fit!

Hi All,

I am another Newbie to this forum ;) I am an 18yr old girl that weighs 98kg :(
I have just started the gabriel method and am finding it facinating and helpful too. I have always struggled with my weight and have been unhappy on many occasions. I have started having flaxseed oil, omega 3 and trying to add more fresh food to my diet. I live in central aus so we dont really have access to many organic fruits, vegies etc and grass fed meats. I have been trying to stomach the protein powder in yogurts etc but I cant really stand the stuff. I also cant find any priobotics.

I really hope i can achieve my goals with this method.

Hi Tash,
I've been making up an egg flip in the mornings when I cant stomach a big breakfast. I mix the whey protein with shape milk, an egg, tsp vanilla essence & a tsp of honey in a shaker. Its really delicious. Not bad on cereal either.

New editions of The Gabriel Method no longer ship with the CD.

If you've bought one of these books you need to go to the Jon Gabriel website and click on the 'Free CD' button and answer the questions to be able to get your CD.

... Except it isn't a CD at all. It sends you links to download the MP3s.


Personally I'm a pissed off at this. It's an obvious ploy to save production costs with the book. And it's false advertising to say 'Free CD' when it's just MP3s. If I'm promised a CD I want a damn CD. If you're just going to be cheap-arses and expect us to pay for the bandwidth to download scummy MP3s then at least be honest and say 'Download MP3s' instead. :evil:

With all the hassles I've had recently trying to get the book and NOW the issues with the CD I'm tempted to chuck the Gabriel Method, even if it does work. I am VERY unimpressed with their marketing strategy at the moment!

Hey everyone!
how is everyone going with this?
I listened to the cd for the first time last night when i went to sleep, and this morning when i woke up i had a huge urge to go for a walk...?
That has to be a good thing, whether it is from the visualisation, or just me wanting to go for a walk.
I would really love to keep hearing about peoples success with this, because other people's success is a big motivation for me...

Hi Evil Wombat Queen. I don't know why the cd is no longer with the book - perhaps problems with transport or cd's getting separated from the books as the demand for them has sky-rocketed? Why don't you email them and ask?

Don't cut yourself off from something which may really help you - just because you are annoyed.

If you have a problem getting fresh greens, grow your own in tubs. You can get packets of seeds really cheaply to start off (then save seed from your first crop). I have found that Kale, beetroot (you can eat the leaves cooked or in salads), mixed Chinese vegetables, various lettuces, silverbeet, and tomatoes all do well in LARGE tubs. Use good soil and add water-holding crystals, Seasol power fertilizer, and mulch. Fast growing veggies need plenty of food e.g. blood and bone or liquid fertilizers. Avoid black plastic tubs as they can get too hot and cook the roots. Placing one tub inside another with an air gap will also protect the roots. Ensure the plants get at least six hours of sun each day. If you pick the leaves carefully, the plants will keep producing for ages. They are great in salads, stir-fries, soups, stews etc.

You need to try different brands of whey or protein powders. Some are quite unpleasant, whilst others are yummy. If you have one you are not too keen on, don't throw it out - just add it to other things e.g. soups.

Pro-biotics contain live "good" bacteria and are available from pharmacies, health food shops or on-line. To be really effective they should be in the refrigerator at the shop - and when you get home. Some yoghurts do contain certain probiotics, but they lose their potency fairly quickly if not used immediatly. Probiotics are helpful if you have been on antibiotics, have Thrush (Candida), or if you are having digestive problems.

Di-gestive enzymes (sometimes called "essential enzymes") can also be bought in tablet form. They help digest food by breaking it down to make it easier for the body to extract nutrients. Chinese Gooseberrys (Kiwi Fruit), Paw Paw, and Pineapple contain similar enzymes and are useful as marinades to make meat less tough.

Whoops! Forgot to mention - avoid using blood and bone on plants which have already sprouted - as they may become contaminated. Probably, the best way to go is a liquid concentrate fertilizer designed for fruit and vegetables - usually available in supermarkets.

The Gabriel Method is not a "diet" in the usual meaning of the word. You do not have to count calories, carbs, fats etc.

Jon Gabriel lost a huge amount of weight – without dieting. See his website, book, and CD.

Jon says that most people are overweight because their body is protecting them from a perceived “famine”. This can be because of repeated dieting, poor nutrition, – or because they have psychological programming which the body/mind also interprets as a need to store fat as a protection.

He provides tools (mainly the CD) which help to retrain the mind/body to reject undesirable patterns from the past and to replace them with positive thought patterns. With these new thought patterns, the person will make better choices – and will not continue with emotional eating. Using relaxation, positive suggestions, and visualization, the person will develop more positive attitudes and desires – in many areas of their lives (not just losing weight).

He also offers suggestions on scientifically-based good nutrition choices and habits. The basic instructions (from the book) are:-

In the first month.

At night just before sleep – look at a picture and use it to vizualize your desired outcome in your appearance/weight. Then listen to the CD. He suggests doing this every night for the first month. After twenty-one days, there should be a definite change in how you feel and respond to outside temptations and stresses.

First thing in the morning as soon as you open your eyes, look at the picture. Close your eyes and for 30 seconds vizualize the picture. Then imagine the rest of the day going as you wish.

Breakfast – have a good breakfast. Eat anything you like. It is a good time to eat potatoes and (whole) grains. Always include a highly assimilable form of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and fresh (live) fruit or vegetables.

Supplements – first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, take a pro-biotic and two glasses of water. Also take two digestive enzyme capsules. Enzymes can be taken before other meals too. Take 5 to 10 grams of an Omega-3 supplement (all together or throughout the day). Take a good multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement – making sure it includes Vitamin-E.

Afternoon snacks – fruit and nuts as recommended in the book.

Water – drink a glass of water before each meal and snack. Drink plenty of water at night.

Add Real Foods – increase the amount of fresh, live, organic foods in your meals.

Suggested Foods are in the appendixes to the book. There are no "forbidden" foods. Please note that sugar, sweeteners, and processed products are not suggested.

Quantity of Food – is not important – as long as you do all the above things as your priority. Your body will adapt quickly and any cravings or overeating will diminish and become easily manageable.

The book provides instructions for ongoing months, scientific information, additional suggestions. If buying the book make sure it comes with the CD. Apparently, some later editions of the book in bookshops do not include the (very important) CD. It may be best to look at the website to order both direct from his Denmark (WA) office.

The CD is available as MP3 now. You just need to go to the website and click on the 'Free CD' button. It will ask you a question that can be answered if you have the book handy. Then you receive an email with a download link. So if you can't find a copy that ships with the CD (I searched for ages and couldn't find one) you can still get the vital mind-programming MP3 to listen to at night.

Hi Guys,

I am a newie and I have 25kilos to lose I am 85 and want to get back to my pre pregnancy weight of 60ks, I had my son five months ago and I am actually bigger now then I am was at nine months pregnant, I am sick of my excuses and joined the forum to stay motivated!! I have joined censored and will receive the pack in the next 7-10 days, I will let you all know how I go, how much weight have people lost in the first month doing this program?? :D :D
